I recently got an email from USNA explicitly stating that medical qualification does not affect competitiveness as a candidate and that the application deadline is not held to the admissions deadline. How does this work? I've heard stories of waivers taking months, but in these scenarios how does one accept an appointment before being medically qualified? Wouldn't this affect plan Bs if you accept an appointment but are then found medically unqualified?

The offer of appointment is usually not made until a waiver is granted.

The candidate has to get stuff in by the deadline. The medical stuff can drag on a bit.

The admissions deadline is for: 1) all things administratively admission related 2) Nomination 3) CFA.

The medical doesn't have a specific deadline, but with respect to Plan B, those are admissions related questions and should be directed to them :wiggle:

My daughter is very competitive for the USNA, has her heart set on going and received two congressional nominations. I would love to speak with you as my daughter is trapped in a circle of hell in dealing with DOD MRB and their misreading her medical records or there is something we are missing. It is more than maddening.

Once you read the sticky in Dodmerb forum and all of Mr Mullens's posts :) you will find that your daughter needs to reach out to him, not the parent.
