DodMerb Disqualification

Hi Everyone,
Do my son was notified of a single disqualification today on the Dodmerb site. The code was D224.41...stress fractures. A few questions:
  1. There is no remedial code for this. Does that mean that a waiver cannot be given for it?
  2. If a waiver can be given, how is it initiated?
  3. He is applying for the USNA. He passed the CFA, has his nomination and is complete for everything except Dodmerb. Will a waiver be initiated automatically for him since he is pretty far along in the process?
  4. He has also been awarded a 3 year AROTC award. How does this disqualification affect the AROTC scholarship. Will a waiver request be initiated automatically for him as from the Army as well?
  5. Can waivers be granted from the USNA or AROTC without any more information from us?
I'm pretty worried now as his dream of going to a SA has now gotten more difficult, but it might also mean a problem for his AROTC scholarship.

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated!
Thanks!

You don't say how old the stress fracture is. Is it recent? Also, the waiver process is automatic from the service academy. When one service academy will not waive the issue, another one or AROTC may. If they want more information, your son will receive a notification about that. Welcome to the club of waiting on waivers. Its all about their time table now. Be patient and good luck.

My DS is in the same situation (albeit with a different DQ issue). USNA Admissions has told my DS that they will seek/give a waiver if they decide to give him an appointment. I would review the "Questions on the Process?" link on the DoDMERB website. Its pretty accurate.

MtJo covered this one above. The only reason I'm weighing in here is the question that was also asked about how recent/old was the stress fracture?

Our own experience was this: back in 2014 my own DS sustained a stress fracture (leg) in March of that year. He's already received his appointment, USNA initiated the waiver with DoDMERB and we took the extra step of asking his orthopod to prepare documentation to reflect that his injury would be healed within six weeks, that he would do the follow up with films, etc. to clear him. We were proactive.

In the end, it mattered not as the academy felt he would not be ready on I-Day because there was not a sufficient amount of time for him to physically prepare....running....in time. He was DQ'd in spite of his physicians documentation.

I'm NOT suggesting for a moment that this will happen to you as each case is different and will be adjudicated on its own merits. All I can say is follow the process, get your documentation in order in the event you need it in a hurry and let it play out, see where it lands you and then go from there. Your situation may have gotten more complicated but it's far from over.

I wish you the best!
