I’m a candidate for USAFA Class of 2025, and I have completed my entire application, including receiving 2 nominations. Unfortunately, on the medical questionnaire, I checked yes to the question that asked if I had ever missed school/work for a headache.
Over the years I have experienced the occasional headache, and trying to be super honest, I marked yes. This prompted several follow up questions asking what doctor I had seen and what treatment I had been prescribed. Any headache I have gotten has been mild and very infrequent so I have never seen a doctor or received treatment. I explained that to the doctor at my medical exam, but I was still disqualified for it. USAFA submitted a request for a medical waiver on my behalf but that was denied too.
I’m currently working on a rebuttal and have and I have a couple of questions. The USAFA Waiver Accessions staff member I emailed recommended getting a neurologic consult, school attendance records, and medical records both from 2017 - present. I have a neurologic consult scheduled for 3 weeks from now with an APNP, not an MD or DO.
Does the consult have to be from an MD or will the APNP be enough?
Also I am submitting a written explanation of why the medical history I provided was incorrect. I honestly didn’t know the frequency, again because it never was painful enough to track or see a physician. The question offered an example of “quarterly” and as I never kept track I answered quarterly thinking it wasn't a big problem.
Are there any specific pieces of information I should highlight or avoid to increase my chances of getting a waiver?
Thanks in advance for your help! I truly appreciate it!
