DODMERB in the news!

"When the outage first began, review board officials established a “here and how” manual workaround where they focused on qualifying applicants who wouldn’t need any more visits to doctors, according to an internal email from longtime deputy director Larry Mullen obtained by Military Times."

Have boys that did this in better years and youngest‘s file sent to DoDMERB a DAY before their site crashed! Took a ly a couple weeks for a determination in past years but this year we have been waiting almost seven weeks with out a determination (and no known issues.) This needs to get fixed! I have almost 30 years in DC life and cannot imagine the fallout when the dust finally settles.

No commercial enterprise would last a week without the ability for their website to operate. Can you imagine Amazon or EBay down for a week - let alone months? Many questions about why and how this could happen and why a better work-around not already in-place. Many now worried they will not be able to make enough appointments to SA classes because medical qualification is a requirement to offer of appointment. Many candidates may elect to take a sure thing offer from another college than be left wondering if they will be medically qualified - in a time where numbers are already way down.

All good questions. My son’s waiver took three months for USMA last year and was fairly straight forward. Since April 15th is the stated date for medical to be resolved, I wonder what will happen with the backlog in the new year? There are many candidates that have not even entered the DODMETS / DoDMERB system yet or even had initial exams and ROTC scholarship winners that are still to be awarded and start the process. They (DoDMERB) will have to find a way to catch-up.

While I'm so thankful we got all our specialist appointments done and all AMI submitted for our waiver in August (for ROTC) it's so frustrating we still haven't heard.

My DS had all exams sent back to DODMERB on Nov. 21st (no apparant issues or past medical conditions) and he us still awaiting and word on status. His brother got his status within two weeks last year after exams.

I am very worried mine wouldn't be done on time. I was told that my deadline extended until 2026 once I contracted with AFROTC but was not informed that only applied to AFROTC. I asked just to be sure (which I should have done earlier) and they let me know I needed to redo the exams. So now I have examples scheduled this month and I have zero prior medical history, and I am still worried I won't be eligible for an appointment my last time applying for one.

Where your exams are in the DoDMERB piles of work depends, not only on if you are a candidate for an SA or ROTC, but also the letters of your last name, and whether who your file is assigned to took off for the holidays. My son received an automated “out till January 2nd” reply when he emailed his technician about his status. Other SAF members have posted that their DoDMERB was processed and results in their portal with later dates than my son (and my DS has no known medical issues or requests for additional medical information.) After my son emailed DoDMERB attempting to determine his status with no response, I emailed. Then, after three weeks I finally got a reply asking that the Candidate contact them for status. Again, when he emailed again he got the “out of office” automated reply. Emailing for status may be working for some but not all.

They've had all pieces needed on our waiver file since August. **crickets*** if you're an ROTC kid and not an SA kid.

Meanwhile we have had to take out 2 student loans because the scholarship hasn't activated over this. Out of state tuition. Head slap.

Wow. That’s rough. What a mess.

Yep. And all with no guarantees the waiver will even be approved. A prompt response certainly would have been appreciated before going into debt on a CHANCE of approval. I haven't slept in months. Prayers for resolution appreciated.

I don’t know that the SA has precedent over ROTC. In fact, what I have read here on the forums is that ROTC kids having significant issues are prioritized. Or were. No primary knowledge at all of this but have seen a post or two from someone in the NROTC world speaking to this a bit, here on the forums.

Has your son talked to his ROTC leadership? Bursars Office? If he is waiting for a waiver approval, or not, is that even still a DODMERB issue? IDK.

Hoping for good news for him. And soon.
