My left knee has a partially-torn meniscus and a condition called osteochondritis dissecans. I am awaiting forms from my physician's office and will get them into DoDMERB as soon as I receive them. Neither of these conditions affect me during athletics but have somewhat bothered me occasionally when walking during daily life. Does anyone think I will be medically qualified? I doubt it, as I have heard that DoDMERB is rather conservative when it comes to issuing qualifying statuses. I know DoDMERB is separate from the USAFA waiver authority, though does anyone know whether these conditions will be waiverable? I expect to pass the USAFA CFA in about a week and a half, perhaps that would appear positive in light of a leg problem. My physician has said that he did not expect these conditions to be disqualifying, although he is not an authority.

This brings me to the second part of my situation. I am getting surgery on January 13th to fix both of these issues, with an expected full recovery in mid-April. Assuming I am disqualified, will this do anything to help me out/qualify me? And assuming I am qualified, will I possibly be asked to not have a surgery with a 3 month recovery period?

Thanks to everyone who responds!

maschneider93 - I've assisted you as much as I can, but if you think anyone here has a clue, without the actual facts, then there may be other issues involved......Good Luck. No need to contact me further:wiggle:

OP, if you have already spoken with Mr. Mullen as a highly-placed and deeply experienced official source, there is no better advice from unofficial sources.

Your health comes first. Tend to that. If it comes about you get no offer of appointment from an SA this year, for whatever reason, you proceed to your alternate plans and execute to the best of your ability. You can then determine if you want to re-apply. There are many other doors to open.
