Hello all,

I am applying to the Air Force Academy as a prior-enlisted individual, who is currently stationed on Ramstein AB, in Germany. I am hoping that I can get some guidance on what I should do to get this process done over here. @MullenLE, I have been told you're the man, can I get some help, Sir?

Thank you,
:wiggle:

The good news is you are stationed on a military base, you’re AD, and you can use the MTF there. You have already passed the standards once via MEPS to get in, so that’s another positive factor. The only bump in the road is anything you were waivered for enlisted service may or may not apply for pre-comm path. Cross that bridge later.

With DoDMERB site down, not sure what can happen and what can’t. Try the help desk contact listed at link above.

Much will also depend if USAFA has requested the DoDMERB process be started for you - has that happened? You might be able to ask Admissions’ LEAD contact.

@Capt MJ no official email but I was able to login on DODMETS. It assigned my facility as some place in the Virgin Islands, which is obviously a glitch or something. That's why I posted here. I'm trying to find out more about how I can use my MTF for it.

Would they have gone off the zip in your APO address? I think that’s where OCONUS military get messed up.

Trying to recall what Mr. Mullen does - I have some vague memory of a post about a special package of forms being sent to and coordinated with your local MTF.

Trying another tack - go to the link in Mr. Mullen’s post, let them know you are in Ramstein and can use a MTF.

Now, another approach, just trying different workarounds, someone at the Ramstein MTF has to do physicals for other pre-comm programs, and someone is likely the pre-comm POC. Part of the challenge is the appropriate DoDMERB forms for physical, optometry and dental, but you could put your best professional face on and either start working the phone or go over to the MTF and keep asking until you find someone who knows the person who handles these. You just might find the person who immediately says, no sweat, I’ve got the forms, know where to send them, let’s get you scheduled. You might try optometry or dental first, see if anyone there recalls handling a case like yours with the required DoDMERB forms.

I ASSUME the forms are the same whether for civilian provider or military provider for a military person, but I don’t know. Perhaps someone here can comment on that.

I tried a couple of obvious terms in the search block with no luck.

DoDMERB issue is being worked on. Evaluation of you application can progress while medical lags, so don’t worry about that. Is everything else done for your application?

I'm not prior enlisted, but applying located not too far from you. If prior are treated the same way, you will not be scheduled through DODMETS. They'll email you a package to take to your local clinic (Landstuhl?). You'll need to schedule GP, audiology, optometry on your own. You might want to do that ASAP to get in the que. Package emailed included detailed instructions for examiners, DD2807-2 and a ROTC optometry screening form. Instructions also included info where to send back the completed forms.

I'd be happy to email you the instructions and forms, but I'm not sure how to go about doing that. Message me direct if you are able.

Process took me about a month to schedule, do exams, and take care of an AMI due to doctor overlooking an item. Sent back AMI just before the crash and have been stuck there for over a month.

That’s it! I was fairly sure DoDMETS coordinate U.S. providers per their contract with DoD. I recall Mr. Mullen mentioning “a package” being sent b some means to either MTF or applicant. Since OP is already AD, access is no problem.

Thank you to @MDRDV for offering insight.

@Gravity0329 you need 5 posts, a week onboard the forum and a system refresh to send/receive PMs.

Interim thought - go to link posted in Mr. Mullen’s away-from-SAF message, and see if you can be sent the forms directly by email, not the link behind the DoDMERB closed door.

Just looked at the original email. The forms were not emailed. DODMERB sent a link which is now behind the dreaded 'Maintenance' page. Pretty sure I have the blank files still if you are able to reach out to me. Again, make the 3 appointments via the Germany central TRICARE appointment number. I had a 2 week wait at my MTF for exam appointments.

@MDRDV if you have the blank copies and can email them I have a burner email set up at reform_splits0m@icloud.com. Not gonna spam this forum just to enable DMs, as everything else with my application is squared away. I have also emailed the email that Mr. Mullen left when he stepped away from the forums last Monday but have not received any guidance, but I didn't expect to last week due to the 3 day work week. I'm gonna get the appointments set up tomorrow and pray I have the forms by then. Thanks for the help, please send the forms if you have them.

Hello! My kid applied from Jakarta. Ramstein is a cakewalk, you will be guided through the process (where to go, what forms to bring) after you hit submit. Please know that the system is down so everything is a little slower than usual. However, getting the ball rolling and submitting your most robust and complete packet is the thing you can control right now. Best wishes--again, this one will work itself out easily.

Hey man if you could email the blank forms to me as well when you get them I’m in a similar situation with the navy. I leave for deployment in a couple days and I have my appointment with my flight doc Tuesday. If I could fill out the right forms and send them before I leave that’d be fantastic.

😂😂😂 A cakewalk? Guided through the process? Maybe as compared to Jakarta, but I had to explain everything needed to the clinic receptionists.
Questions asked after stating I had an appointment for a service academy physical at my local military clinic reception: Is this for enlistment? No, it's for service academy application. Oh, like ROTC? No, for USAFA. Blank stare... It's the Air Force version of West Point. Oh, wow, you're going to West Point, congratulations! ...Sigh, thanks...😒 :zip:

So you were able to make a local appointment in your native language? Also, the physical is the same for ROTC as it is for West Point and USAFA--so nothing new. You went to an MTF, you will likely be seen by a military provider.

Yes ma'am. Definately easier than Jakarta, but with its own set of challanges. No disrespect intended. I just had to laugh at the whole process being called a cake walk even with a US military provider. I expected the process would be part of a SOP. It was not.

In the States it is delivered through a contract with private physician's offices. So anything outside the norm...is, well, outside the norm. Were you able to complete the eye exam? (Without the provider pulling out a big book & winging it? My guy who did the exam in Jakarta is now a captain so his dodgy DODMERB experience worked out ok...)

I have the forms, DODMERB got in contact with me. I also spoke to a doctor that told me I just need to request a medical clearance as if I was separating/retraining/commissioning/PCSing in MyIMR, hopefully this helps any active duty folks! You just gotta go on there, fill out for a medical clearance request, and then email them your commander's nomination + the medical forms, and the ball will get rolling with the MTF. Hopefully I can get it done expeditiously so I can get early word on my appointment early on (or lack thereof!)

you used the US embassy list of approved doctors and etc? Not through the DAO?

Yes, we worked with the US embassy medical team (who were our medical providers at the time)...my future cadet may have been uniquely related to the DAO...So, my advice is: DO WHATEVER DODMERB TELLS YOU TO DO...and reach out to Mr. Mullen if you don't know what to do--because he does.
