If a candidate has a DoDMERB DQ, does a waiver need to be granted before a civil prep offer?

I don't speak for the Academies that tender offers to Civil Prep, but it is my clear understanding that they will only send DoDMERB qualified or Academy waived applicants to Civil Prep. The question is best directed to the respective Academy Admissions office:wiggle:

I was actually curious if DoDMERB qualification is required to self sponsor at civil prep

Found this on MMI website…All SAP candidates must be morally, physically, medically, and academically sound. All candidates must, as a minimum, meet all ROTC standards. What does ROTC standards mean as it applies to DoDMERB, and how would MMI measure that for applicants who self prep?

DOD INSTRUCTION 6130.03, VOLUME 1, MEDICAL STANDARDS FOR MILITARY SERVICE: APPOINTMENT, ENLISTMENT, OR INDUCTION are the medical standards applied for all Service Academies, ROTC programs, and other officer appointments.
MMI ROTC applicants are the same as all other ROTC applicants, in terms of the application of medical accession standards.:wiggle:

Hard to get straight answers on the medical process. I went through this 30 years ago and it seems like things are more or less the same. DoDMERB does their thing, and then each academy does theirs…

The answer provided was clear: "...but it is my clear understanding that they will only send DoDMERB qualified or Academy waived applicants to Civil Prep."

With DoDMERB questions always listen to Larry Mullen so I will his response speak for itself! I can explain my son's experience with a DQ and civil prep. He was an immediate disqualification from an injury in high school for both USMA and ROTC. He also quickly moved to "under waiver review" for both. This was October/ November 2020 of his senior year. He then received 4 year full-tuition ROTC scholarships for the other colleges he applied to pending DoDMERB waiver. By March 2021 he was still "under waiver review" for both ROTC and USMA until West Point requested the waiver for him to attend the civilian prep scholar program (his admissions officer said this). We can only assume his West Point portal would have never changed had USMA never requested the waiver for prep school. Also, his DoDMERB waiver for ROTC was never changed so we don't know when/ if that would have happened. He chose to attend prep school rather than ROTC at the end of March so we will never know if the waiver would have been granted. He is currently "medically qualified" for USMA and will finish his prep year at GMC this May. Hope it helps hearing someone's experience. Best of luck to you!

It is not hard to get answers to medical questions, if the questions asked are what is the questioner really means to ask. Part of the problem are folks that are not "current" on what the processes are vice referring to yesteryear.:wiggle:
