Hello Internet,

I received a conditional appointment to the USCGA's scholar's program for the class of 2024. Due to a recent email I received over the requirements of things to do before I got in, one of them is that the DODMERB results must be turned in. On my DODMETS website, it said my case is closed as of January 2nd, meaning they had sent it to the DOD. I know processing is slower now because of the government shutdown, but does anyone know a way to view the results of the medical exam beforehand, or is it necessary to view them when they are submitted to the Coast Guard Academy?

Have you checked the DoDMERB site for status? DoDMETS deals strictly with the scheduling and completing of the medical and optometric exams and the DoDMERB site is where you should check the status of DoDMERB's evaluation.

I was DQ'd on January 15, but my portal was updated by January 18 to read "Pending Waiver Submission/Review." I would assume that this means they are still going through with the waiver process regardless of the shutdown. Or perhaps it is just an automatic change?

Like FMHS-79 said, be sure to check your portal on the DoDMERB website.

From what I have read, if you are medically DQ'ed, your service academy will automatically issue a request for a waiver.

How long will that take? DS has had a pending waiver submission/review with USNA since Dec 12. Ugh

Be prepared to wait until April, just in case. They are building out the class, and it takes time to evaluate, compare, re-evaluate. In and of itself, it doesn’t take long to review a record and approve a waiver. There could a stack of records, all very similar, all requesting waivers that seem reasonable to grant, but applications haven’t closed yet.

Keep repeating to self, “Marathon, not sprint,” and “No news is good news.”

I understand that all the SA's do automatic waiver reviews for any candidate they are considering. The only one that does not is the Army, there you have to have your Regional Cadet Commander request a waiver for you. If they are requesting a waiver it means you are in that pool of applicants considered highly qualified.
