My DS has his DODMERB exam in the morning. While he was printing off his question package I noticed on the physician instructions -Urinalysis- "Stick test". Is this the or glucose/ protein read? He is in the middle of summer baseball and is either practicing or playing most everyday. If he refuses the urinalysis, or politely tell the physician that a urinalysis is no longer needed, could it cause his file to show incomplete or a refusal to the DODMERB officials? Has anyone had their DS/DD refuse?

I've read in several other posts the urinalysis is no longer done, maybe they have just not updated the paperwork?

He could try and persuade/convince the physician that the test is no longer required. But, it does seem that some continue to do the test and report the results. IMHO, I would not refuse the test. If he does fail for high protein, it is pretty much an automatic remedial and retest. Start hydrating early and often.

If you are worried, have your DS call Concorde in the morning to confirm that the urinalysis is not required. They may be able to email you information prior to the appointment. They physicians are all contracted through them to perform the exams, so they will know what is mandatory or not.

FWIW DS had his DoDMERB exam last week and there was no small dixie cup handed to him.

I can just imagine some zoomie - having inexplicably secured the high ground - wanting to pee in a dixie cup.

So did your DS end up having to take the urinalysis?

When I had my physical done this summer I was not required to take a urinalysis nor was it even brought up. You should have nothing to worry about.

Update. My DS did not have to do the urinalysis. Dr. said the forms just haven't been updated but was instructed not to preform the test anymore. DS spent maybe 5 mins with the actual Dr. Weight, height standing/sitting, blood pressure, hearing check completed by nurse. In and out 15 mins or less. Now we wait.

My son had one last year and failed for protein in urine. Had to retake it but it took months to hear the answer. I wish we had known it wasn’t mandatory. Or that our doctor had known!
