Hello, I have been Under Waiver Review for both USNA and USMA since early September. Is this something I should be worried about? I recently received a nomination to both academies. Does reviving a nomination increase my chances of an academy pursuing a waiver?

Congratulations on the nominations! My son is in a similar situation by being Under Waiver Review since October and receiving two nominations for USMA. We were told to check the DoDMERB website daily for updates and requests for AMIs (Additional Medical Information). We had two AMIs pop up late last week just after he received the second nomination. The timing could be a coincidence, but at least we know that USMA is actively reviewing waivers right now. We were told to act on any AMIs as quickly as possible because the waiver process is put "on hold" until you upload the information requested. I have read that the waiver process can last well into the spring. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Thank you for the info! I submitted a letter from my doctor saying he does not see how my condition will affect me from performing all duties required of me in the military. I submitted this letter even though they didn’t ask for it- I hope it helps.

I would be more concerned if you were not under waiver review. Being under review means that you are still in the running. It can take till spring, or sometimes summer, for the process to run its course. Though the letter from the Dr might be helpful, the requests for AMI is what will make a difference. Though understand not all DQ's require AMI. Some DQ's are waiverable, some can only get a certain amount of waivers each year, and some are not waiverable at all. Since you are under review, you are still in the running. Just be patient and work on plan B,C,D. Good luck!

What does your admissions portal say?

“Under waiver review” in dodmerb doesn’t really mean much, just that the medical people for that program have access to your documents not that they are actually looking at them.

Your admissions portal will be much more informative. When it says disqualified that means they haven’t tried for a waiver yet, this will switch to waiver pending when they decide your competitive for appointment and then hopefully to waiver granted.

My admissions portal for USNA is disqualified and for West Point it is pending USMA waiver consideration.

DS has NROTC-mo 4 year and USNA with noms. No news since 10/18 with under waiver review status. DS e-mailed everyone up and down the admissions chain - with little to no information. No AMI's even requested. He will get decisions from his top NROTC schools soon, which is frustrating - should he accept when they haven't even looked at his waiver yet?

Idk what the West Point one means but for Navy it just means you have to wait. The admissions office hasn’t sent your stuff over to the medical people yet, when they do the status will become waiver pending.

Pretty sure you would not have to accept until like May. At least that's what is is for most of the schools my son has applied to. So, shouldn't be an issue for you.

That wording for USMA means they submitted the candidate for a waiver.

In each circumstances, the SA must request the waiver review which is only done for applications competitive for an appointment or "in the running" as they say. As mentioned above, "Under Waiver Review" indicates the information is available, if a waiver is requested by the SA you should receive notification from the SA informing you of the request, next steps, etc. Unfortunately, that portal status causing confusion every year. Wherever you are in the process - good luck to everyone!

In the same boat. Unless it's a serious DQ, then the pre physical should get you through NSI and into your unit (from what I understand). I've been anxious, although my waiting game only started after Christmas.

I don’t believe so. I have had zero contact from DODMERB or West Point to submit additional information.
Got an email from our admissions officer stating our DS would be submitted for a waiver and his portal wording changed to “Pending USMA Waiver Consideration” and in the Official Correspondence tab it showed “Medical Waiver Initiation Notification”

They can make a determination of a waiver without needing any additional info as it may not be required. They are also backlogged so it takes time.

For NROTC, you do have to be medically cleared and have waivers approved if needed before you can activate your scholarship and they start paying your tuition. This can result in having to spend the first semester or two out of pocket.
