Currently active duty Air Force E4. 5 years in service. Was diagnosed with adjustment disorder and had suicidal ideation for small time. Never taken medication or anything and am currently on flying status. Do I need a waiver for AFROTC commission? Would I be able to join AFROTC if I get a VA rating when I separate to go to college and join AFROTC?

Q = Do I need a waiver for AFROTC commission?
A = Yes

Q= Would I be able to join AFROTC if I get a VA rating when I separate to go to college and join AFROTC?
A = You can not get dual benefits -- You can't get VA disability while contracted in AFROTC :wiggle:

Chances of waiver getting approved for adjustment disorder? And would I lose my VA rating if I was to get accepted into ROTC?

Q= Chances of waiver getting approved for adjustment disorder?
A = Speculation on your chances on a public website? Not from anyone who has legitimate credentials in medical accessions.

Q = And would I lose my VA rating if I was to get accepted into ROTC?
A = As I stated above, "You can not get dual benefits -- You can't get VA disability while contracted in AFROTC." You would get reevaluated by VA AFTER your obligated period of service

Mr Mullen as usual is correct, if you get evaluated by DoD/VA upon separation from enlisted and get a disability rating, you have to waive the payment (not the rating) as long as you considered "In Service". You cannot draw dual benefits, in fact many Guardsmen get in trouble and a large debt because they accept a VA disability payment and still drill and collect pay for that. You have to elect which benefit you wish to accept, VA Disability pay or military/drill pay, it is right on the 526EZ you fill out for VA benefits.

AND, Mr. Mullen is correct in that upon separation from the military, even after a previous DoD/VA medical rating, you will be re-evaluated and re-rated for your current (at that time) compensable illnesses/injuries.

Not that I needed it, I appreciate the affirmation :wiggle:
