So I'm reading in these threads that you don't have to take the DoDMERB physical until you're contracted, however in the process of applying for the AROTC scholarship I received a packet to complete the physical. I passed and everything but I'm just wondering why I had to do it if I didn't receive a scholarship? Not a problem, just wondering

For ROTC 4 year scholarships the normal process is to address the DoDMERB physical after a scholarship has been awarded. The award of the scholarship is dependent on successfully passing the physical. Sometimes, but very rarely, the physical is done prior to the scholarship. There is no rhyme or reason to it that I have seen.

I can't quite say why, since the application process changed drastically for this year group. So are you saying you definitely did not get a scholarship, but was still sent to DoDMERB?

I can say, from reading threads from prior years, that sometimes candidates were sent to DoDMERB first before being awarded a scholarship - for some unknown reason.

DODMERB ?

I should probably post this elsewhere, but does anyone know-once a cadet is contracted are there DODMERB exams during college? I thought I read somewhere that they're only "good" for two years.

You do one after being contracted or awarded a scholarship, and then another prior to commissioning. If you're DQ'd, you can try again in two years.

I haven't received a scholarship yet, it's not definite

Stop!...Strength you are wrong. You need to stop giving bogus info.

You have to be medically qualified to contract. Army ROTC high school winners are typically directed to get theirs done after they receive an offer, and need to be qualified before they sign the contract. Some applicants who are also applying to SAs will be directed to get theirs done by the SA. There is no 2 year waiting period if you are DQ'd, and you do not take another DODMERB physical when you commission. Here is everything you could possibly want to know about DODMERB

Schools handle the DODMERB differently. At Clarkson I will send all the Cadets who we board for campus based scholarships and anyone who is going to LTC or getting ready to contract in the fall as a junior. A DODMERB physical is indeed only good for 2 years. There used to be the ability to get that extended 6 months, but not any more. And there is the ability to convert a MEPS physical into a DODMERB physical, but only for non scholarship cadets who are in the Guard or Reserves.
