Hey, Mr, Mullen

I am hoping you can hopefully help ease my concerns. I want to be a air force fighter pilot however my vision is not the greatest. I know I fit the vision requirements with out any corrections. My doctor said I could be eligible for eye surgery to fix my eyes to 20/20. I was wondering if I should get eye surgery before I go into USAFA or ROTC. Or should I wait until I talk to them. Also how easy is it to get a FC1 medical. is there anyway that I could be sure I can get a FC1 before USAFA or ROTC.

thanks

Any surgery is a decision between the patient and their physician. No one in the Department of Defense is authorized or will opine on any surgical questions. Vision doesn't usually stabilize until 21, so corrections made before that are corrections to something that hasn't stabilized yet.

No, applicants can't get a FC1 exam. Reason, FC1 exams are not conducted until junior years of USAFA and AFROTC.

Your focus, pun intended, should be getting admitted to USAFA and/or obtaining an AFROTC scholarship :wiggle:
