Most important thing to do is to tell the truth. A common mistake is when candidates self-diagnose. If you actually were diagnosed by a doctor, that is much different than if a relative or teacher told you you had asthma. If a doctor diagnosed you with asthma, your answer to the question must be yes, and DoDMERB will probably want more information. You can be proactive by starting to gather your medical records. Even if DoDMERB issues a disqualification based on a history of asthma, your quest is not over. If you are a competitive candidate, the academy and/or ROTC programs you apply to can request more information and/or testing to determine whether they will offer a waiver for your history of asthma. This process is a marathon, and you can only control so much. Good for you for getting your application done early so you have time to wade through the waiver process if that is what you have to do. Good luck!
