Hello, my DD still hasn't heard anything back from admissions but is still anxiously waiting. However, her primary back up school requires her to respond to their acceptance by the end of next week. I have no problem paying the acceptance fee and stuff of that nature, but will her accepting the offer of admissions there take her out of the running for admissions at the Naval Academy?

from what i understand sending in a security and acceptance to a civilian school does not mess with a service academy appointment. you probably won't get a refund but you can always notify them she has changed her mind. you actually should always have a plan b or even c. think about it. If DD doesn't get an appointment--(fingers crossed she does) she most definitely wants to continue her education and she might miss a semester if you don't have a back up plan. best of luck to you and your DD.

DS is in the same boat. We talked to admissions at his backup college and they said that they would be flexible on the acceptance date. Have you talked to your school and asked for an extension ?

Her acceptance of back up school will have no effect on USNA's decision. Any candidate who has not heard yet would be wise not to miss any deadlines at back up schools. Consider it a couple hundred dollar insurance plan. You'll sleep better knowing she has options.

It's not unusual to have not heard anything by now - the majority of the appointments will go out by month's end....

Thank you all so much for your insight. We contacted plan B admissions and they said they could hold a spot, however, the specific program to which she applied will only hold her spot for a week past the deadline.

Also, does anyone know if recruited athletes are counted on as spots on an MOC's slate? Because I had heard that LOA recipients were not and just got curious. Thanks again everyone!
