Does bronchoconstriction always disqualify for dodmerb?

Our 17 yo son wants to follow in Dad's Navy footsteps. He is thinking about enlisting vs trying for a ROTC scholarship to attend a Merchant Marine Academy vs the USMMA. Unfortunately, he has a documented bronchoconstriction that occurs when exercising in the cold.. never has had an asthma attack, but just a mild cough. Has anyone been granted a waiver for this or is this a true non-starter? If so, we would direct him towards a non-military Merchant Marine school.

MOM/DAD: Google "DoDMERB;" Hit "Questions on the process;" Read paragraph #4.

Son : Send me an email: lawrence.e.mullen.civ@mail.mil (***ensure you type the email just as it looks. No extra “e” anywhere***); provide complete name and last 4 SSN; provide the text of your Parent's posting above to YOUR email. The subject line of the email should be “SAF .“ Do NOT embed links in your email as I will not be able to view those.:wiggle:

Larry, thank you. We'll have him contact you. Just out of curiosity, why do you need his last 4?

Because I have a database that allows me to take the first initial of the last name and the last 4 to find the applicant. My message is a blanket message :wiggle:

Thanks Larry, but our son has not applied yet. He's debating whether to apply or not.
Thanks again.

Understood. Out of the hundreds of inquiries I get per week, there are a few...that have not applied yet. Hence my blanket response:spacecraft:
