"Dear Candidate:

You receive this because you have accepted or have been offered an appointment to join the West Point Class of 2022. Congratulations upon this singular achievement.

You, your parents and guests, are invited to come to our West Point Society Piedmont annual Founders Day event on Saturday, March 3 in Winston-Salem. You may attend free but others will need to register. (see below).

The Superintendent, General Caslen, is our speaker and we believe that he will meet with you and your guests separately before the event. More details to follow. I think you will enjoy the evening if your schedule permits.

If you have any questions, just hit reply or call me at"

Hey guys, I recently received this unofficial email at 5:04 this morning. It says that I have received an appointment to West Point, but, when I checked my portal, I haven't. So, since it's not official correspondence, I called the number listed, and they guy told to call my congressman to make sure there wasn't an mistake. He also said there has never been error like this. The academy sends a list with names of those who have been appointed, but never to someone who hasn't been offered one. Does anyone know if this event is legitimate? Does this mean I have an appointment?? Please, I am dying to know. Thanks in advance.

Similar events have showed up on past threads. I expect the invite is legit. I can't speak to the appointment. Call the MOC's office. You may have to wait for a return call from the MOC.

As a courtesy, USMA gives MOC's three days to be the first to inform and congratulate appointees. Therefore, your portal will not be updated, no BFE sent, or call from FFR or RC during that waiting period.

Although a mistake is possible, it is likely that the wheels turning behind the scene do not have the same waiting period before including your name in all of the administrative processes that occur once an appointment is made.

Who did the email come from? I had a significant disagreement with my district FFR about emails like this. He was looking at all applicants and sending emails similar to this based on his opinion about "they may" receive an appointment. Most did, a few did not.

Recently appointed cadets are invited to Founders day and their is usually a briefing from admissions and Academy leadership in attendance.

The bet advice is to pick up the phone and return the call as the email specifies.

My son received one of these last year prior to his appointment (while he was awaiting his medical waiver). The West Point Societies invite appointees and expected appointees to the Founders Day programs. The societies are in contact with the RC's and have a good handle on your status. I cannot imagine that you would get this invitation if your appointment is not imminent. It was an outstanding event, you and your parents will definitely want to attend. Congratulations!

Congrats!! Enjoy your time in the clouds, I don’t think my son has come back to earth yet since accepting his appt. Good luck!!

Yes - DS was invited to last years' Founders dinner in our state prior to his appointment. It is 80%+ confirmation of a pending appointment but still not official.
The RC's have sneak peek access to the secret list and use these forums to help get appointees to accept.
Hint: DS was still undecided last year at that time; they put those candidates at better tables . . . ;)

By all means accept the invite; it is a great time to meet alumni and current cadets. Our speaker was Col. Greg Gasten and its a great event.

Congrats !!

Don’t forget to PM me to get into the class of 2022 group chat. It is a Slack. No personal info is required to enter.

@USMA 1994 YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME? That is horrible. My heart goes to the kids who receive such a message at the recommendation of the FFR and then do not get the appointment. Has it happened? It seems like a bad urban legend.

It happened to my DD two years ago and there was another last year that I know of.

I could not hit the little 'like' button for that @USMA 1994. We are friends in real life and that just hurts me too much for your girl.
It always seems a shame that there is no feedback mechanism on the field force from any of the service academies. Most of these men and women--many of them on this forum--are pillars are society dedicated to recruiting and guiding the future generation of young officers--it is such an important mission in reaching every corner of the Nation.

Your gracious volunteer could use some constructive feedback, just like #3's USNA Blue & Gold Officer--(he insisted on coming to our home, insisted on talking to me, and had no sense that a woman 1) may have attended the Naval Academy, 2) may have served in on active duty in the military, or 3) that we are a Gold Star Family--so don't lecture my son and me on sacrifice and what it means to serve.) SQUIDS! BEAT NAVY!
