Does the number of nominations matter in the admissions process?

Hi all! Just wondering whether or not the quantity of received nominations plays a role in the admissions process. My friend who is applying to the AFA insists that it does but I do not remember hearing anything about this regarding USMA. Any help would be appreciated! [emoji4]

It has no bearing on your WCS. It does however all the academy more opportunities to slot you to each nomination. So yes and no.

Thanks for your reply! So the more nominations I have the higher my chances are of getting a slot, correct?

All you need is just one NOM. A NOM from another source can help.

I think there is a little more to the process than above. Multiple nominations will slightly increase your WCS which matters as you compete in the different "buckets". You will compete on the primary slate for each nomination source. If you have the highest WCS for any one of those slates then you will get an appointment. If after all the slates are resolved, you did not "win" one you are placed on the NWL. The top 150 or so candidates from that list are then offered appointments. That 150 number is an estimate and moves up or down depending on many other factors each year. So the short answer is yes, multiple nominations increase your chance of an appointment because you have more opportunities to compete for an appointment.

Right, but it does not affect your WCS in any manner. The multiple nominations only allow you to be slotted in different slates.

Thank you! This cleared the issue up for me.
