Does USMA care about club sports on resumes?

Hey everyone I had quick question about club sports and how to put it on my resume for SLE. I play club soccer for one of the best teams in my region. We go to showcases around the country and compete on one of the highest levels available the country. However when the application asks about sports, it only mentions Varsity sports at the high school level. I have lettered in varsity soccer for 2 years but playing at the level my club team plays at is more impressive than the high school level and I care about it much more. So in conclusion how should I go about putting this on my application for SLE and in the future? Or does USMA not care about club sports and only focuses on Varsity high school sports?

They are looking for things in your varsity athletic career other than how good you are.

USMA does care about and consider ALL sports participation and leadership positions. There are some ways to include “club sports” on your application in “other” and describe it. If you were Captain or had a leadership position also indicate that. Varsity athletics are emphasized for a number of reasons but you definitely want to include club team participation. If you do not feel you cannot find the right way to show your participation on the application, email your RC (Regional Commander) in admissions and explain your situation and include a resume of all of your sports, academic, and extracurricular activities. The RC or their staff will ensure you get proper credit on the application. All of these items are assigned points that contribute to your WCS (Whole Candidate Score) so be thorough. Good luck!

Got it. Thank you so much.

What a lot of candidates don’t know is that even being a team manager or trainer will count towards participation if they list and explain it. The key is that everything on the application is assigned point values and for someone that ends up on the NWL (National Waitlist) a few points could be the deciding factor as to whether they get offered an appointment or not. Also, remember to update those activities by December of your Senior year if anything changes (new clubs, honor societies, etc..) Many that do applications early, in their junior year, forget to go back and add senior year activities and loose points that might have been considered.

I agree with all of the above comments.

The SAs are looking at you as a whole person. Everything counts. My son included three varsity sports, one AAU sport, and marching band in his resume.
