Dog Problem

I have searched and cannot find the answer to this question. DS will be attending soccer camp in a few weeks. We are driving quite a distance and may have to bring our dog (short story: he is a biter, other DS was going to babysit, but now has to work out of town, can't leave in kennel).
He would be wearing a muzzle, as he does whenever he is in public. Are dogs allowed at West Point? If so, what happens when you pass through security? Last time we were there we had to open the back hatch - if he is in a cage (not sure if it will fit with the luggage), will they want to see in there?
If needed, I will leave DH outside the gates with the dog and drive DS up to the barracks and drop him off!
Also, does anyone know of a cottage or cabin for a 3 night rental within an hour of West Point? I would prefer that to a hotel that accepts dogs.
Thanks so much for helping with this strange problem!

Yes dogs are allowed on-leash, at least for A-Day and such events. We brought ours for DS' s A-Day last year I cannot be sure about other more random visits to the campus. Also be aware the route over Bear Mountain caused our dog some noricable ear discomfort (pressure and leakage) so if yours is a breed prone to ear leakage issues (cocker etc) go the 9D flat route to get to base. Your best bet ovrrall: Call USMA security and ask about dogs being allowed in and being allowed to roam with owner.

Thanks Dad! I will try calling security. Still looking for a cabin to stay in. I have found dog-friendly hotels, but no reasonably priced cabins....the search goes on!

UPDATE: Mentioned your post to my wife who is more plugged in than me :D and she reminded that she had looked into this dog situation before and found that WP is a base just like any other, meaning you are fine bringing your dog but must be on leash at all times and you own the poop cleanup. And of course the dog is barred from the same restricted areas you are. Good luck on the cabin.

Great thanks! Still keeping my fingers crossed we don't have to bring him, but making a Plan B just in case!
