I had appointments to the other Service Academies but I was waiting on USNA because it was my first choice. Over a month ago my congressman’s staffer and called and said if I had made up my mind. When I told them I was waiting on Usna he informed me it probably wasn’t going to happen. He said even though I was a strong candidate it was a numbers game. My district had 2 prepsters recruited atheletes etc. He informed me they already had 2 too many appointments charged to them so their was no way they would get another one. I accepted my USAFA appointment and was set. Well today the same staffer called and said I don’t know how but they are also offering you an appointment. Now I’m back to trying to figure out what is my best choice.

Congrats! Great news. Focus on the service and go from there.

And also there won’t be additional slots charged to MOC as stated. Preparers can be charges to SecNav and a variety of other sources. Just because a MOC makes the call does not mean it will be charged to that MOC.

So why were you waiting on Navy as opposed to accepting as opposed to accepting USAFA right off? You might want to examine that as you make your decision. Also look at the career fields available in each service. College is only 4 years, AD is 4 or 5 and then followed by reserves, or AD is a lifetime. What you do while on active duty will far outweigh which school you attend in terms of your own satisfaction.

Our MOC will only put candidates on a slate for 1 SA and will not slate if one gets a Senate Nom. Very competitive Congressional District in a highly competitive state with lots of military bases. Hardly seems fair.

This is why you wait until you hear from the academies themselves. It's important to have all the information and options available to you until the last moment. I also remember you saying early on that your staffer was doing this for the first time and really didn't know what was going on. I don't think I would have taken their advice on just this fact alone. Having said that, it's a nice problem to have. Good luck to you in making your decision.

Whichever you decide on, let the other one know, of course. I know, I know.. I'm preaching to the choir.... but some wouldn't think of it in their excitement.

While you are waiting spend time looking at the webpages for each of the academies. What do you want to study? How good is the program there? What sport do you want to play and what sorts of activities do you enjoy?
More so, what do you want to do when you grow up? Do you want to go to sea? Do you want to be a Marine? Spend time reading about the Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force.

My guy accepted USAFA and then got into USMA right at the end. He went through some very private soul searching before hitting 'accept' for USMA and turning down his already accepted USAFA appointment. It was not easy. Your decision is not easy but be true to yourself and what you want to do with your life.

Last, don't let anyone give you any mumbo-jumbo about 'taking an appointment away from me/my DS/someone who really wants to go to school there'
That is rubbish.
You are not taking anything away from anyone by going to USNA and giving back your appointment to USAFA. They will find a candidate who is waiting to be accepted and wants to learn their Wild Blue Yonder ways.
No Regrets.
