My DS after 3 tries finally received his appointment to the USAFA on Thursday.
This is after his school counselor his senior year told him not to apply his h.s. gpa was around 3.7 so so test scores. He self prepped at NWP and was accepted to USAFA prep this last fall and worked his rear off and achieved his appointment Thursday.
This post is to let all the young men and women know that with hard work and perseverance it is possible to get there just don't give up!!!

Big congrats. My DS is a 2017 preppie also. Bravo company. Received his appointment on Thursday as well. We are flying out for grad ceremonies tomorrow. Toughest year academically that he has ever had. When they say grind, they mean grind. The ride continues!

It would be ironic that once he gets in, he doesnt like it. I would assume that since he did USAFA prep, he would have a very good understanding what USAFA is really like

I know someone with a very similar story. Got in on the third try and became a pilot. He is now a Colonel in the USAFR and the Vice Wing Commander.

Wow, that is so inspiring! Congrats to your son! My daughter is self prepping at NWP this coming fall. Did your son's test scores improve while attending there? She really needs to bring up her SAT so we are hoping this will help. Any other words of encouragement or tips would be so appreciated!

Thanks so much for posting this! Where did your son attend his second semester after NWP? Did he attend a 4 year or community college?

Also love to hear stories of kids who really put their noses to the grindstone and DO IT!

Congratulations!

His test scores did improve but it was a lot of work but it was close he put in a lot of work. I can not say enough about nwp, they are the best at preparing the kids. Good luck!!

What a great story. My hats off to him for persevering. Good luck as he begins his next adventure as a Basic cadet.

Thankyou for posting this. My DD did not get in this year. Despite a 4.6 gpa, 3 National Championships, (orienteering and AFJROTC Drill. Her 28 ACT was apparently a little low. She is gung ho for next year. And is going to go to jr college to improve on some of her weaj pounts

I'm sorry to hear your DD did not get in but am happy to hear she is staying the course. Just make sure she takes a course load on the same level as the freshmen at USAFA and she keeps up with her fitness. Also, it might be a good idea to try taking the SAT if she has not done so. Some people do better on the SAT than the ACT. My DD was one of them. Her ACT was average, but she blew the SAT out of the water. It may help. Good luck to her.
