I am seeing many posts in this forum about LOA's. I just want to give hope to the candidates who read these posts and think that if they haven't received a LOA or "heard something by now" that their chances of getting into the Academy are slim. NOT THE CASE! At this time last year, we were just getting ready to go out to a Candidate Weekend Visit. My son had everything in and was very hopeful, but still feeling a bit down that he was hearing that there were many LOA's out there and he didn't get one. Long story short, we learned to "hurry up and wait". The mailbox will become your new best friend, the answering machine will always be on and you will check caller ID everyday when you get home to see if MOC or USNA has tried calling! :shake:
DS got his appointment in February and his nominations as well. This time of year gets very long and you may not hear anything at all. Just keep the hope alive. Many won't hear anything until February or March or later. Concentrate on your MOC interviews, updating your file, and most of all...enjoying your senior year! Good luck to all! :thumb:

Should those candidates that are competing for nominations and are not URMs or living in S. Dakota be nervous if they don't have an LOA?

Prbly not yet. But ARE they? Naturally. It's part of the process and rite of passage.

When one is no longer "nervous," means one of 3 things ...

They're in.
They're out.
They don't care.

Fascination and fixation on LOAs vs. applications, nominations, 3Qedness ...is wasted worry, majoring in the minors.

thanks!

Thank you for posting this!

LOA's are very few and far between. # Four: They're Brain Dead with no discernible nervous system. Concentrate on your Application, Nomination and DoDmerb Qualification. Even if you are from Minot which is a little north of the Badlands.
