Does anyone know how the access to phones works for the Doolie Day In today? Will the BC's get their own cell phones back if they took them, or do they have to use pay phones or something? And if they have to use pay phones can they get phone cards? My BC will probably try to call my cell phone and I don't believe cell phones can accept collect calls.

They will either get their cell phones back to use (if they took a cell phone with them to In-Processing) or they will use a bank of land line phones that have free long distance calls already on them.

Got my call earlier today. She did have her cell phone. Sounded good. I asked why the webguy always gets pictures of them in formation and I haven't seen one glimpse of a smile. She said that's just her group. Her Cadre has them very structured and they are barely at ease and haven't been able to let loose, even when being issued uniforms and such. So she said don't expect any smiling, but the good days and bad days are evening out, so she's doing okay. I'm a happy Mom.

I got to speak to my son for about an hour today. I asked if he liked it he said he loved it. He said he has had some bad moments but that everyone does. He said he knows he is where he belongs. He said he heard about 30 had dropped so far.
I was very encouraged he also said he knows who he is rooming with for the acadenic year overall a very positive call he said things can change with the new cadre for Jacks Valley

Heard from my son as well. He also loves it and is looking forward to Jack's Valley. I don't think I've ever heard him talk as much or as fast as he did today. If he feels this much excitement after the last couple of weeks he's had then he'll love it for the rest of his life. I've been in the Navy Reserve for 15 years and was mobilized from 2006-2008. For those who have never been in or exposed to military it's hard for them to understand that feeling of pride when you put on the uniform or what it means to give back to your country. Today I heard my son express those feelings and it made me cry. He gets it! I couldn't be more proud of him and all of the cadets at the Academy. They are exceptional young men and women.

Daughters are a little more emotional I think. First call of the day, she was in great spirits. Then made a few too many calls and started to get really sad, lonely and missing everyone. Called me back with 1/2 left of their free time just so upset that she thinks her friends are already moving on and forgetting her. So I had to give the everything will be okay speech. During the first phone call she also said one of the guys in her group was trying to get out and the paperwork takes over 9 days to process and if she had even thought about that now, by the time it went through, they would be just about done with 2nd BCT, so why bother.

I got the call on saturaday and she was in great spirits. I could hear that she was pretty much past the bad days and everything was getting better. Reminded her of some advice a previous graduate gave her and that was, quit tomorrow. finish the day and sleep on it you can always quit tomorrow. since tomorrow never comes i thought this was good advice. Sorry to hear she got down after maybe one too many phone calls but she will rise back and excell as only USAFA cadets do. Can't wait for parents day now so i can see her.

go class of 2014 "like a machine!"
