Doolie here, AMA

Same as title. Nothing too personal though.
How was the exams?
Hardest class ( for you) and the reason?
Now that you're out of bootcamp, what are you enjoying the most?

Any advice?

Thank you for your time!

The exams were definitely hard but not crazy. I stayed on top of my stuff pretty well so with a few hours of studying I could pull off good grades. My hardest class so far has been history because of how subjective it can be from teacher to teacher and the reading load. I definitely have enjoyed being able to listen to music and call people whenever the most, you don't know how much you enjoy those until you go to basic.

What’s it like to have a sponsor family?
If the relationship is a good two-way fit, it’s a place and a family that comes to feel like home to you, where you can physically and mentally get away from your SA. Home-cooked food, bbq grill-outs, dogs to play with, refrigerators to raid, sofas to snooze on, blessed peace and quiet or little kids to remind you of your own sibs - whatever means “home” to you as much-needed downtime.

Do you have any tips for BCT?
Definitely be in shape when you get here, practice some memory stuff before hand because you will memorize a lot of quotes/poems/knowledge, bring your own nail clippers, file a some sort of mark onto your locks in case the cadre get ahold of it, always be loud, you can be completely wrong but if you're loud and confident it's ok. Don't count the days, make the days count. It feels like a long process and thinking about the time only makes it worse, just make the most of each day, do everything the cadre say but also have some fun.

Hi, what do you mean by filing a mark on the locks, can you elaborate on that a little bit? Thanks

Yeah so you'll be issued a few master locks and if your lock is left unlocked the cadre will steal it and lock it to the other locks they've stolen, then you'll only have a small amount of time to try to find your lock and unlock it. So, if you have a mark that distinguishes yours, then you'll know which one it is and save time. Or you can just remember to lock your locks.

A recent post said USAFA feels like a normal college now with COVID. Would you say that it feels like a military academy? Even though it may lack the history of the other service academies, is it what you wanted in terms of culture and training for an Air Force career? Thanks.

I mean normal colleges don't have the ability to keep me from going home and there are still rules that we have to follow that make it far from normal. That being said it definitely is a different atmosphere than it was at the beginning of the year when COVID wasn't as prevalent. It's not quite what I wanted and definitely not what I expected because of that but it is still clearly a military institution. The culture I would say is more spot on though, I know culture use to be different in the sense of doolies are the scum of the Earth but now it has definitely shifted to us being just people in need of training, so in that regard I would say it is what I wanted.

Pro tip ^^^ or you can just a sharpie to write your name on it ... had to write a 750-word essay this summer thanks to an unlocked lock ... 😂 :bang:
