Doolie Year Weekends

I understand there are Blue and Silver weekends; if there is a blue weekend and I wish to leave the academy from Friday night until Sunday afternoon (returning before 7pm) will I be able to do so given that I apply and ask for the paperwork as soon as I possibly can and attempt to remain in good standing? How often would I be able to do this?
 
Yes you would. Doolies have a very limited number of passes and overnight passes available each semester. If the same allotment is given this year as last, you would only have enough passes to do this once per semester unless you received special permission or earned performance passes for something you did.
 
I have heard about activities for recreation that are available on the Academy campus (e.g. movie theater, ski slopes, etc). Are Doolies allowed to attend the theater/slopes etc. on weekends (after basic of course)? If so, would this privilege be granted after Recognition?

Yeah definitely. There's a lot of entertainment on base - a bowling alley, hiking, movies and dancing on most weekends in Arnold Hall, and about once a month there are typically free food trucks and entertainment of some sort (concert, big sports game, dance class, etc.). These are all open to 4-degrees. There is a ski club you can join that drives up to the slopes pretty much every weekend in season and if you go skiing this way it does not count against your limited pass allotment. Hope this helps!
 
And if you don't have skis, skates, etc., you can rent them, or buy second (or 5th) hand at the thrift store on base. My DS got BRAND NEW SKIS there for $25. They are purple, which may have been the reason they were at the second hand store. I think he sold them after his casual in CO - for $150. :) (Made Mom PROUD.)
 
My doolie year last year, we were only allotted 3 weekend passes per month and 2 overnight passes per semester. After basic ended, recreational places like the bowling alley and Arnold hall were packed with doolies. Towards the end of first semester those activities died out and people started going out into the springs more often. However you have to be in service dress if you leave base until recognition. Some weekends we were restricted and couldn’t leave at all. You just have to make the most of it. But try and get out as much as possible. This place drains you and you need time to get yourself back together.
