Hi all. DS is DQ as stated in title. He's CPR for USNA and NROTC. He has absolutely no dietary restrictions, due to successful immunotherapy. He can freely eat all of his allergens. He has never had a reaction other than hives...never used an epipen. In his AMI, he submitted a letter from his allergist explaining the treatment and its outcome. My question is, is there anything he should proactively do at this point? Or just wait and hope that a waiver review is requested? I've seen suggestions to seek a military DR to ask for a challenge. Would that be beneficial? Thanks for any guidance anyone can offer.

My DS had the DQ for peanut allergy and was diagnosed as a toddler. School mandated EPI pen but it was never used once. We did not know the extent of the allergy so we had testing done. Ultimately, DS took the oral challenge and passed. For USNA, having any reaction to peanuts is a DQ even it's minor. I would suggest being proactive and having an oral challenge done because it's very likely they will request one. If you son is competitive for USNA or NROTC they will initiate the waiver process but you will remain CPR until they make a determination. It's easier to have the info ready in case they request because it can be a long process - just from our experience.

Thanks @18Hopeful He's already completed immunotherapy for all allergens...passed a peanut challenge a few months ago, via his allergist who administered the immunotherapy. He sent the letter from his allergist with the AMI. Are you suggesting we complete another oral challenge and send it in? Or have another with a specific doctor to have ready in case they ask for more information? Thanks!

If your DS already performed the challenge, passed and submitted results then you are in waiting mode. Your DS will be CPR until they decide whether or not he is competitive for an appointment. If the academy decides to pursue a waiver then his portal will update to show it's in process. My DS was CPR for months until they started the waiver process.
