Is there anything that can get a new cadet disqualified on R-day that wasn't caught on the medical exam? I'm not too worried about it but my vision isn't the greatest, but it was enough to get medically qualified. Anything that could go wrong there?

Not USMA, but USNA...my own plebes roommate was turned away on Iday. He had a reported injury that hadn’t healed to their qualifications. So he was sent home.

It’s not common, but it happens. You should be fine however with your vision. You passed the vision exam.

I assume there will be another medical exam just before the commission to active duty. Would one be subjected to waiver process again then?

Getting DQ'd on R day is not a big concern. Unless there has been a change, you won't go through another vision exam, or a thorough physical for that matter.

Weight is the biggest concern or not being able to do a pull-up after recording 20 on the CFA.

Yes. Every year a few Cadets are unable to commission due to medical disqualification, usually due to injuries or conditions that develop as a Cadet.

Usually the biggest issue is bringing something up not previously disclosed. There probably won’t be enough time to work out the waivers.

If they granted a waiver on the same condition four years ago, they should automatically grant the waiver again for commission (assuming nothing changed, or ever slight change if there is any), unless they have too many commissioning candidates and need to weed some out?

1) On R-day, I was asked if I wanted a prescription for a condition that I needed a waiver for from DODMERB - weird.
2) We sat in a briefing room just after R-Day and people were asked if they had failed to report illegal drug usage prior to arrival - people literally got up, walked to the back of the room as instructed... and still stayed at the school. - super weird.

While it isnt impossible, after what I have seen, I would say it is pretty hard to do and the offence would need to be big.

THE REAL DEAL:

Larry (or should I say Sir): I believe you helped our DS CC last year with a late medical issue (IT band problem). It cleared up and he is doing fine now as a plebe. But the stress of that problem and your help with it won't soon be forgotten. So thank you very much. And to others, heed the wise advice of MullenLE.

Don't get hurt! Yes, serious undisclosed, recent injuries and/or corrective surgeries will get you bounced. Stay in great shape - will make the summer go by easier. Break in all footwear, especially the boots. Try to work up to 5-10 mile 30-40 lb rucks. Get out and jog regularly. Keep doing pushups and pull ups to your CFA scores if you can. Watch the partying and no tattoos. Spend quality time with family and siblings. Learn how to go without your cell phone for 6 weeks (Beast). Portals will open on 1 April for uploading up all paperwork except fingerprints. Good luck!

Just plain old Larry...I work hard for a living :yikes: . Our honor and privilege to serve:wiggle:
Good one sir, I mean Larry, the age old response when a Chief is called sir.

Don't call me sir, I work for a living.

My dad passed over 20 yrs ago and my mom and I still refer to him as "The Chief" in our conversations.

Funny! When my wife and I had the first grand child in the family, (now a Mid), we asked my father in law what he wanted to be called. Grandpa? Grandfather? Paps? Nope. He responded "she can call me Chief..I won't make her call me Master Chief" :p He had been retired at least 30 years at that point. From that day forward he was known as Chief to DD and all future grand kids.
