Hi, I recently visited my DODMERB portal and found out that I was disqualified for myopia (which I expected).
What I saw after that really confused me.
I'm applying for USNA, USMA, and USAFA.
For USMA and USAFA, they said, "current medical status: pending waiver submission/preview" but for USNA, it said, "current medical status: does not meet medical status."
I'm really concerned that the USNA already saw my record and decided to not give me a waiver.
But then, I feel like the time frame was so short that they couldn't have possibly done all that within few days.
Any thoughts?1544503301648.jpeg

Cannot say for sure but the waiver process is academy specific. You probably need to get this answer directly from your USNA admissions liason / BGO etc etc.

The vision standards for each academy are different, including what is waiverable and what is not. In general, USNA and USAFA are more stringent because of their greater number of pilot slots.

I agree waivers come down to the commissioning source. I also agree reach out to your BGO or RD.

I could be 10000% wrong, but the way I read it, USAFA and USMA has placed your waiver request in already, and USNA has not gotten to it yet.
~ It reads to me as DQ and that is it. It does not state WAIVER DENIED. In essence, they are still processing your paperwork.

They are swamped. Give it a few more days and see if it changes to PENDING.

I would advise again to contact your RD (admissions) at USNA this week because they basically close up shop once the mids go on winter break, which is probably sometime next week since Xmas is only 2 weeks a way come tomorrow.

Hopefully that's true. Thank you:) I was really scared that I wouldnt have any chance in usna

Great diagram. Maybe the mods can add it to the Waiver Time frame sticky??

Apologize if this has been asked before. I researched it and did not find a previous response...
A SA will not request a waiver unless they offer an appointment first, correct?

No. They cannot offer an appointment until a waiver has been granted.

Incorrect. You have it backwards. They will not offer an appointment until a waiver has been granted.

Ok. So if you have a DQ, and the Academy wants to give you an appointment then they request a waiver. If your waiver is granted, then the SA gives you the appointment.
The reason I ask is because my son spoke to some of the admissions folks and he told me they said what I had posted in my original question. He could have misunderstood them....
Thanks for the replies!

Here is the DoDMERB flow chart for waivers:

Just because a waiver is granted doesn't mean an appointment is imminent. DS rec'd a waiver last year for USAFA. Waiver was granted in 6 days. We were hopeful that was a good sign. No appointment was offered.

My DS is in a similar situation (different DQ). This is a sentence from the email from the DoDMERB Technician at USNA ... "You will not go through the medical waiver process for the Naval Academy, until you have received an offer to attend the Naval Academy." He was invited to stay overnight for an overnight visit (CVW). I asked a question regarding waiver and the admission presenter responded the same. The reason given was that it is an expensive process so USNA would only initiate it when they deem that he can be admitted. The admission officer also indicated that my DS was invited to CVW because he is highly qualified. As for West Point, they told him that he has a very strong profile so they requested a waiver on his behalf. He was then granted a waiver from the USMA's waiver authority in less than 4 weeks. He got a nomination from his MOC so we are anxiously waiting and praying hard for an appointment. Different process but the requirement seems to be the same ... for waiver consideration the candidate must be Highly Qualified.

Thank you for this post! This clears up the muddy waters quite a bit! We are in the same boat with USMA, USNA and MOCs.

My DS was granted a waiver from USNA in early October. He read the statement on the USNA website regarding waivers only after acceptance. DS contacted admissions and they indicated that this wasn't always the case.
