DQ'ed but waivered at USNA ..... now with NROTC scholarship??

My son applied last year and this year to the USNA, and his file of DQ'ed has been applied each year. He received a waiver last year, and it was given again this year (since it was the same file, and no changes at all to status).

Now, he competed for and was awarded a 4-year NROTC scholarship as a walk-on college programmer. So, in reality, it will be a 3 to 3-1/2 year scholarship once he is cleared for medical.

My question ...... since he has already been reviewed and categorized for the Academy, will his file just flip right over to his NROTC unit and the waiver request put through quickly? Will any consideration be given to the fact that the Academy has waived the concern already (twice)? Or does he have to wait for a full review of his file and go through the whole waiver process there?

Turns out my son has already been working the channels in his various communications with his NROTC coordinator and you guys. Taking the lead on things!

They grow up so fast. ;)
I will pretend to channel your son, and hear him say, with just the slightest eye roll, "Dad, seriously, I got this. Put the mouse away and stop typing." It's probably time to re-imagine what your man cave will look like with an empty nest.

Don't worry, if he is like most, he will bring a carload of really dirty laundry with him on spring break.

He just got the feedback from DoDMERB on his waiver for NROTC. They are asking for a slew of records (which he is not clear on what they are requesting, or if there actually are any). My son is probably going to reach out to you, Mr. Mullen ..........

Mr. Mullen will be able to sort it out with your DS. The USNA process and NROTC process move in separate lanes. Sometimes sharing data, but with different decision makers (BUMED for NROTC).

In the 25629 emails I have since the 1st of Feb, I don't have one that has this subject line:

“IronmandDaremo- SAF =DQ'ed but waivered at USNA ..... now with NROTC scholarship??.:wiggle:

So, they requested his medical records going back to 2017, and my son chased them down and sent them in. They also asked for pharmacy records, so we chased them down by calling the corporate office for the one we use. My son had ONE prescription within the five year period. He's sent it in three or four times now to his coordinator, but they either don't believe it, or think the file is incomplete.

He has almost never taken any sort of medication since he was around 10 or 11. He pretty much rarely got sick or had any issues through his teen years. The file with one script is an accurate record of his pharmacy use.

Not sure what to do with that?!

I an you are sure what to do with that...the same thing your son did in Feb:

Pinged my son. Gave him this link to follow your instructions for communication (no link included, etc.). He will follow up accordingly.

He did actually get on a course of antibiotics last week for a minor foot thing, so he does have another prescription in his file now, and he'll need to report that too. 🤦‍♂️
