I am currently a MS1 on a 4-year scholarship at a private university. I am reconsidering ROTC for personal reasons and potentially dropping at the end of this academic year. I was wondering what that process would look like and what I should be ready to repay.

Do you have the paperwork you signed when you contracted? I would suggest reading that over, but I believe that you are allowed to drop before the start of the second year with no obligation. If you go even one day into the second year though you will be obligated. So be sure and look things over carefully and be sure you understand what the contract says. Best wishes.

If you Army ROTC you can drop prior to the start of sophomore year without obligation or recoupment. Speak to your cadre, as you will need to be disenrolled from the program.
