Dropping Class

I sent my 7th semester grades already and am academically qualified. If I drop a AP compsci class, how will that affect me? I really don't like and enjoy the class anymore.

Just remember that quitting anything difficult that a person had previously committed to finishing can appear to be a negative behavioral statement made about your character. Does not liking or enjoying it anymore possibly equal not doing well in the class?

Even if you do poorly in the class you can spin it into a positive. Say you did your best to adhere to the Warrior Ethos: "I will always place the mission first. I will never accept defeat. I will never quit. I will never leave a fallen comrade". Go before school and after school for help. Show you're willing to give it all you've got, even in spite of repeated defeat.

CompSci will help you with the Plebe IT105 course - stick with it and suffer through it. I'm a CompSci major and even I though AP Computer Science sucked in high school. You'll be alright, just don't let Senioritis hit you too hard.

I would stick it out in the class. However, you didn't mention what your grade is. If your grade is failing and it effects your overall GPA which would lower your class ranking, then you need to preserve your GPA.

Push Hard, Press Forward

I definitely recommend finishing out comp sci just because it will help a lot next year when everyone else is struggling through it... but you can definitely drop a class and have nothing affect you!
At this point in the year you've probably gotten through most of the material anyways that if you want to enjoy your last few months as a high schooler with your friends and family while preparing physically for the academy.... do it! I dropped one of my AP science classes a few months ago (I already received appts to the academies) and while I did get some crap thrown at me by other students, by this time next year they are not going to matter. One thing I've learned is you can't worry about what others will think of you or your decisions. Do what makes you happy and relaxed these next few months because you're going to be SUPER stressed next year. Dropping my class was one of the best decisions I made this year, just make sure you think it over :)

I also didn't enjoy my AP physics 2 class anymore and I was super stressed with the workload that I now use that extra time to go to the gym and run and the extra time I have from not having to do all of that homework to enjoy my family... I'm sure going to miss them a lot next year. I also have more time to myself and not having to stress about that class!

It's an important officer skill to know when to cut out unimportant things from your life/workload. Good leaders know when to give up on something that doesn't make sense. I think navyafgirl brings up a good point, if you use that extra time wisely it could be an incredible benefit.

I know I can get at least a C in that class. I just really don't enjoy that class anymore. But I decided I'll just finish the class. Thank you all for your advice.

Did you notify your admissions contact when you were deciding to drop the class? They made an admissions decision based on not only your prior success but also the continued completion of your studies. Are you concerned your appointment could be rescinded if you don't complete what you told them you were scheduled to complete before graduation?

I already talked about it with everyone, including my counselors, ALO, BGO, etc.! I'm not worried, thanks for your concern though :)

Oh, OK. So admissions at USNA and USAFA said that you could drop the class. Got it.

yes and I dropped it months ago, 2nd semester grades have been sent out for a while, and I still have my appointments! If they weren't okay with it I wouldn't be recommended someone else to do the same haha
Believe it or not, they aren't too strict about dropping classes, they're more concerned with if you were to be failing multiple classes.

All I'm going to say is that, and this is my opinion as a Cadet, the way to go is to keep the class. There are two options here, from the perspective of most people - the easy way, and the hard way. Which do you think reflects better on your character? I think you know the answer to that.
