I very foolishly tried marijuana about a week ago for the first time. My packet came about two days later and I have my DoDMERB physical on wednesday. When they test my urine will it check for THC?

I know it was not a smart thing to do. Thanks for the feedback

Are you sure? I just looked at the form the doctor will use and all it says for urinalysis is protein sugar and blood.

My first boss said figuring out life is simple. On one axis, you have smart and dumb people. On the other axis, you have doers and non doers.

The people he warned me about as a kid are the dumb doers. THC is 30 days. 90 in hair if you want to fight the man, then lose anyway. Making dumb doer pretty much means you will be bounced. Leaders need to see ground truth. The kids need to learn that they are true cron

What are you thinking kids? The standards may or may not be fair, but they are defined,,

Know doubt kids find angles to get thi

The answer is YES. They will check for THC, cocaine, and a plethora of other drugs in the "panel" check.

If you truly tried MJ a week ago; you will glow like a neon light. I'm not trying to be nasty, just stating a fact.

What a shame that your first two posts on the forum are your concerns about failing the drug test. I hate that you have jeopardized your chances.

If I remember correctly its a panel called "drugs of abuse." We test for:

- amphetamines
- opiates
- ETOH
- cannabis
- barbiturates

If we detect amphetamines that don't coincide with a diagnosis (ADHD, etc), you're in trouble. For opiates, we're looking for recent surgeries. Barbiturates, I'm thinking seizure or sleep disorders.

The rest...you F'd up.

Larry Mullen has stated several times (that I'm now reading) that DoDMERB doesn't drug test in the urinalysis. So does that mean it is a recent change?
Thanks for the input.

Unless things have changed, DODMERB doesn't drug test as part of your medical exam. I believe you are asked if you have used any drugs, including marijuana.

You WILL be tested on I-Day and over and over and over and over again once you're in the military.

Thank you sir for the reply. I fully regret the decision, and I am not stupid enough to continue use. I am just confused as to where the other answers came from that state the complete opposite?
Thanks for the help

Baseball97,

I truly hope you have learned a valued lesson no matter how this turns out.

As you move fwd. think about this all through your life no matter what you do. I have given the same advise to my kids as they have grown.

....Always take the tough right over the easy wrong....

With this said, "85" mentioned that "Unless things have changed, DODMERB doesn't drug test as part of your medical exam. I believe you are asked if you have used any drugs, including marijuana?"

If this question is asked what will you do? You do not need to respond to this question on this forum you only answer to yourself.

We all make mistakes and face failures in our lives; it is times like this that you learn who you truly are inside.

Good luck, I hope it all works out for the best.

A lot of people whom I truly admire and respect have answered here and the responses are conflicting. It may be that two "different" questions are being asked and answered.

1. Do they drug test the urine? This is the OP's root question. Seems the responses are mixed. I for one have no idea so I am not going to weigh in on it. There ought to be a source document or a resident expert that can answer this for sure.

2. Do they ask about drug use in the forms? The concensus is yes on this.

A candidate could probably delay an exam for 30 days but there is no getting around the "use/ used" question. In fact that question will come up time and again in ROTC and active duty.

As usna85 states, you will be randomly tested again and again while on active duty - and there they will be checking the urine for drugs.

I was answering the "drug panel" question. My reply is in response to a "drugs of abuse" screen. As for DoDMERB, I was vetted in 2000. I don't recall a drug test.

My understanding is that they do not test, but I could be wrong. Drug testing everyone can be expensive in both money and time. The ROTC units will do that often enough on their own.

But, seems that there is nothing you can do but sweat it out and hope for the best. And learn from your mistakes. Lord knows we all make mistakes, and the smart ones are those who learn from them.

Thank you all for the replies. I have realized my mistake and will be better for it. I am appreciative of the responses from the people who did not scold me and tell me how bad I messed up, I get that. The general consensus definitely seems to be that no they do not test. This is the first and last time I ever do cannabis.

When asked, you admit. If they don't want you due to drug use, so be it. If you can't tell the truth when asked, there is no place for you in my military. It's that simple.

As general info, I will say that drug testing in the military (regardless of branch) is relentless.

This may have changed but common test times at a SA in my day included the morning after a three-day WE and the morning after the school returned from leave -- sometimes that night. In the USN, it was common to show up at work and see a sign saying that everyone whose SSN ends in (pick two numbers) needed to report for drug testing. You were escorted to the testing area and had to stay there until you could produce a sample (plenty of water was provided!). Again, common times were right after WEs and vacations -- although any day of the week, any week of the year was fair game. If there was a workplace accident, everyone got tested.

If you do drugs, it's only a matter of time until you get caught. And, in today's military, you can consider it your ticket out -- with either an OTH or Dishonorable discharge. Not a career-enhancing move.

A single "experiment" as a high-schooler MAY not be fatal (depends on the school, circumstances, etc.). However, a single use once in the military -- including a SA or ROTC -- is almost certainly fatal to your military career. Those who have tried it in h.s. need to think seriously about the circumstances that led them to use drugs and figure out how they will deal differently with a similar situation in the future.

Regardless of whether or not they test for it, there will be a time when they asked whether or not you have tried drugs,at least that's my understanding, so it's going to come out.
