It’s USMA applications - twins!

Both have 4 year Army ROTC scholarships and both loved & chose VMI - but neither has been accepted yet.

DS #1 has an email today, saying that he has a nomination to USMA from Senator Cornyn (Texas). He does not yet have a 3Q letter or a LOA.

DS#2 has no word on nominations (applied VP, both senators, congressman), but had a 3Q letter a few weeks ago and got an LOA from USMA today.

So right now, they have pieces and parts - but nothing solid yet. I could end up with one who has a nom but no offer - and the other LOA with no nom - and both who have scholarships but no acceptances.

I’m just posting because no one in my world is familiar with these processes and I’d love for the wise people here to assure me that, somehow, it will all work out in the end.

The rollercoaster will come to a stop eventually, right?

Well, at a minimum you should accept the ROTC scholarships for whichever school is preferred of the ones offered (presumably VMI). If VMI doesn't accept one or both, they can try to transfer the scholarship to another college later. The acceptance of the ROTC scholarship is not legally binding so if USMA comes through then they just need to let Cadet Command know they are not using the ROTC scholarship.

Hope this helps. Not sure what else you might be looking for ..... but no one here can assure you it will all work out in the end. It may, it may not. Have faith and patience. It's too soon to worry. At best the roller coaster pauses when you get to way-points but it never truly stops until an Active Duty and/or Reserve commitment is complete.

I would have the one with the LOA contact the MOCS/Senators and let them know about the LOA ASAP though. It might help with getting a nom for him.

Thank you for the information - that helps a lot! I feel better knowing that if VMI doesn’t work out, they can ask to transfer the scholarships. LOA twin is getting on email now to let our Senators/MOCS know of his status. I think I need to get organized and make sure that both boys have multiple contingency plans going for next year!

@Laurantwins, it will work out because your DSs seem smart enough to have a Plan B (and I presume C and D and so forth). As others here have said, the best ones bloom where they’re planted.

You should reach out to fencersmother. She had almost the identical situation, but for USAFA. In the end both did get appointed. They are both ADAF pilots.

She is funny in her own way. I have known her for a decade and still don't which of the twins were born 1st.
I will say beware what you post. Twins are rare and many cadets/mids also are on this site. It is an anonymous forum, but let's be real... again twins are rare.
~ Funny story that I still remember about a poster, a twin and both were going to USMA.
~~ The poster had stated that he was a twin from NY and Asian. He offended some posters (cadets) by being pompous regarding Beast would be a breeze. Posters told him to give his twin a tee shirt that said it wasn't me as his graduation present. Why? Because he placed them on their radar and his twin shouldn't get ribbed bc he pushed the line on this site, or maybe it was College Confidential.

Twins happen more often than you think. I believe USAFA a few yrs ago had triplets appointed.

I would also say keep plan B in place. Injuries happen. Choices change.

To Pima's point, I recognized Fencer's sons as one of my BCT cadre based on her postings before I left. When they tried to pull a fast one on us during BCT in the famous uniform swap, I looked at my roommate and said, "It is his twin. I know he has a twin from forums I followed." Sure enough, it was his twin! She had posted enough information that I was able to put two and two together based on the limited knowledge we had of our cadre. I was in squad with one and the other was often found in our squad because of his brother and my roommate was a teammate. Twins are pretty easy to spot in an environment with a limited population.

This may explains better of the ways of which West Point can find other source for nominations for candidates with LOA.

Love to see the twin power! I am also a twin, and we are applying to USNA together. We hear about our congressional nom soon, and we are interviewing with one senator next week. I'm not sure if the nomination system allows us to go together, but it seems like there are plenty of twin at academies so it must work somehow. I can't wait to see how your boys end up @Laurantwins !
