DS Getting ROTC Leadership Award from Battalion - can I infer his OML standing?

DS is an MSIII, I have periodically asked him about where he stands on his school's OML. He claims that he doesn't know. He was recently informed that he's receiving the Battalion's leadership award. I know it may be a stupid question but I am assuming that they are not giving that award to someone in the bottom 3rd of the Battalion's OML. Is that a fair assumption? Obviously, I am asking with an eye on next year when Branching opportunities get chosen, knowing the higher up he is the better his chances.

There is more that goes into OML than leadership but I don't expect they would give such an award to people who were doing badly in other areas.

I'm sure your son is correct about not knowing where he stands on OML.
