Hi All,

I wanted to know if you have heard of a nomination to the prep school (not to transition to the actual academy)? I researched the threads over the past several days and saw one buried content regarding a nomination to the prep school in 2009 but otherwise nothing. We are very excited because we really hope he goes to the prep school.

He completed his application and all tasks completed on 12/16/2016.

Historically, do you know when he might hear something. I understand the admissions committee has a rolling admission process.

Thank you

My understanding is that you do not need a nomination to a SA Prep School. Those that received an offer to a Prep somehow fell just short of an appointment for whatever reason (academics, low SAT in a particular area, etc.) to the actual academy. These are the folks that the service doesn't want to lose per se but they cannot offer a direct appointment, therefore they offer a slot at their respective Prep. What school(s) did your DS apply too? Also, do continue with Plan B, C and D. A lot will happen over the next 2-3 months. Does he currently have a nomination in hand from your MoC(s)?

Yes he has multiple acceptances with full rides for honors programs. He also is a baseball player w some offers. His nomination from the MOC to the prep school. His AOL says it is a real nomination. I have just only seen it reported by parents one time in 2009. So I thought someone else may be in my shoes.

I got into prep school too! Maybe I can be friends with her :D
My son would love to be friends , however he has not received an appointment yet. We have our fingers crossed hoping he will receive an appointment. We received a nomination to the prep school. I guess it's really a recommendation but they have to decide about him. He's really hoping to be there with you.

He has multiple plans and offers but somehow is not motivated to choose until he hears from the Prep school OR I make him choose because of the May 1 deadline for normal (non service) colleges.

I received a principal nom a couple weeks ago and my MOC said they are really pushing me for NAPS. So basically my MOC gave me a p-nom for NAPS. I know that this is a very uncommon situation, so I just have to wait it out the hard way.

My DS also got a nom/recommendation to the prep school. Our USAFA admissions liaison had to go to the Admissions committee to ask what it was. We are still waiting with bated breath! Praying and hoping. It feels like no mans land.

A nomination is not required nor given to a prep school for any SA. What I am assuming happened here is the MOC is providing a recommendation or endorsement for the candidate to the respective prep school.
I suspect you are correct but in the SA world it is a zebra in a herd of horses! The MOC office has only given 3 before and the admissions counselor didn't know what it was until she contacted the admissions office. We, the parents are praying our DS is trying not to think of it. Every finger, toe and hair is crossed!

Per the USAFA instruction to candidates pamphlet, "If you fail to qualify for an appointment to the Academy, your records will automatically be reviewed for the Air Force Academy Preparatory School. The Academy Director of Admissions screens all candidates. Selections are made on a competitive basis and competition is extremely keen for the limited number of spaces."
And, selections/offers for prep school normally go out in April through May.

I was recommended for prep school on February 8 and still waiting final decision. Trying to be patient.

I'm so glad we are not alone in this weird grey area! What state are you in and if you are in Texas what district are you in?

The USAFA has an acceptance deadline of April 15. Does anyone know about the USAFA Prep school acceptance deadline?

Does anyone know when the Prep school appointments will go out?

Never mind! It's amazing what actually reading will do for me!

The website says that prep school candidates are considered in March and appointments are sent early April before national higher learning commitment day of May 1. However they do state that appointments may be sent out up until the I day (basically)!

Thank you all!!

Thank you all!!

All true... I received my prep school appointment on June 9th the year I attended. I was awaiting a waiver for ACL surgery.

Wow! I'm glad you received your appointment to the prep school. I hope we find out sooner than that. My son is a recruited athlete with another college. It is his plan B school. The US Air Force Academy is his first choice however his grades will not get him into the Academy our hope is the prep school and he did receive a recommendation from our MOC. I hope that has important bearing on an appointment.
