Hello,

My school has finally given me the opportunity to do Dual Credit and I am just trying to figure out if it would be worth the effort rather than doing a handful of Dual Credit Courses.. If anyone could chime in on if USAFA would prefer one or the other or what benefits one may have over the other.

Thanks CG

Competitive colleges want to see you take the most rigorous course schedule you can take and maintain your grades. There is a lot of debate about AP vs dual enrollment and which is more rigorous. I’ve traveled to countless colleges, service academy days and academy admission presentations and come away with the strong feeling that AP is considered the more rigorous. I know a top state college that recalculates your gpa and gives weight for AP and none for dual enrollment. Example, your school offers AP Lang then take that over Dual enrollment Engl 101. Just keep in mind rigor and challenging yourself. There are no short cuts to get to an academy and the hard work you do in high school will help you once you’re there.

Yes, it’s a choice. If you go to an in-state school those dual enrollment classes are a most likely a sure thing whereas you’ll have to score well enough on the AP exam in order to get credit.
