E-2C Hawkeye Bailout in Arabian Gulf

A trying day for the Navy in the Arabian Gulf. My thoughts go out to the crew and hope we find the missing crewman.

This actually hits a little close for me as we always talk about bailing out vs. ditching in the aircraft I fly in on a regular basis.

How terrible - I hope they find the missing crew member soon.

Question though - whats the difference between bailing out and ditching?

Bailout - jump with a parachute.

Ditch - land the aircraft in the water and then egress.

Over a day later and still no word on the fourth crew member. This does not appear to likely have a good outcome, but keep the prayers going until we get a final word.
