DS just receive an interesting email from his FFR. Does anyone now how much information FFRs are privy to?
FFR no, I do not know. However BGO have no inside information. Was the email the one previously posted on this thread? There is another thread about an email inviting some candidates to a West Point Founders Day banquet and that came from a FFR or a MALO.
In both cases, I would be careful reading too much into them.
When you read the email above carefully, what it seems to indicate to me is that there are a lot of competitive candidates who are worthy of admission and they are looking for candidates who already know they are not going to accept in favor of something else (USNA, USAFA, USCGA, ROTC @ MIT, etc.). In other words - they are looking to eliminate qualified candidates. That can help admissions solve the jigsaw puzzle of offers if they know candidate X will definitely accept while candidate Y is going to likely take a USNA appointment. It will also allow them to offer as many appointments as possible by 3/1 - which I believe is one of their goals this year.
This process is difficult and by eliminating LOA and rolling admissions, it is keeping candidates (and their parents!) on edge anticipating the outcome. I read that email and think my DS is competing against some very capable candidates and could easily be left w/o an appointment to CO2017.
At an admissions brief a year ago, the officer emphasized how competitive admissions are. I now know that first hand. A year ago I didn't think my DS would make it. Now - who knows? Only God. I also now realize that the BFE isn't earned - it comes because of grace.
So if you don't get the email, I don't think that is necessarily a bad thing - it could mean that your WCS or principal nomination make you a shoe-in!
