Some added incentive for the Class of 2013...this is the year when she heads to Europe (every four years):

The Eagle will make the following stops during the trip:

May 8-11 Rota, Spain
May 22-25 Monaco
June 11-15 Bermuda
June 26-29 Charleston, South Carolina
July 8-13 Boston, Massachusetts
July 17-20 Halifax, Nova Scotia
July 24-27 Rockland, Maine
July 31-Aug 3 Portland, Maine
Aug 7-10 Portsmouth, New Hampshire

The 3/c's will actually have the European leg, but the swabs will have some nice ports too.

Nothing like the mighty barque Eagle. :thumb:

Holy Cow! Wow! Unbelievable! Oh my goodness...

Please, Lord, let my son have this opportunity according to your good will.

Amen.

Looks like the Swabs will have:

1st leg (Alfa/Bravo/Charlie) - Halifax to Rockland
2nd leg (Delta/Echo/Foxtrot) - Rockland to Portland
3rd leg (Golf/Hotel) - Portland to Portsmouth

Boss - Is your info about the 3/c's going to Europe confirmed?

I heard the 3/c's weren't going on the European leg, only the full-time USCG crew, and that the 3/c would pick up the Eagle in Bermuda.

Portland to Portsmouth....that's no fun...head out and cut circles in the Gulf of Maine?

It would seem to be too late for 3c's to get on board in mid-June...the 22nd makes more sense to me.

Graduation is May 20 so that makes a lot of sense.

Swab summer my son sailed from Rota, Spain to Madeira, Portugal(an island off Africa)...he was supposed to fly out of Madiera back to the Academy on on C-130...there was trouble with the plane so he was "forced" to remain behind with his company mates. They suffered through four extra days in a five-star hotel. He went air ballooning, dove off cliffs and various other "onerous" tasks. HA HA HA. It was a nice start to his career.

its funny that you should mention that about the c-130

ours had engine trouble before it came to pick us up back from CA to CT
so we had to wait 5 hours on the stip for another one

I hear that the 3/c (well, us 4/c in half a yearish) will be going off to spain and everything. Perhaps not the trip from the states and across.
I'm all excited about it, i liked Eagle...
the late night duties
the rockstar shift to the early morning shift
the low bunks that you can't turn in
the fact that you only had one iron for 30 people before liberty with trops
fun times

i'm really looking forward to spain
seems learning a little spanish will help me after all a bit

Flew in a C-130 from Lakenheath, UK to Grafenwoehr, Germany...if that's what you flew in for a trans-Atlantic flight, more power to you. I was partial to the C-17 myself!!! :thumb:

Forgot to mention that our two C-130s broke down more than once...made it interesting to get to Stuttgart that night from Grafenwoehr.

The Eagle is one of the best parts of the CGA experience. Nothing like climbing a 147-foot mast, cooking hamburgers for your mates, midnight watch under the stars, "mid-rats," sailing into exotic ports, meeting exotic locals, giving tours when you've been on the ship about five minutes...it's all good! :thumb:

i dont know if you would find many cadets that would say that....

I would not have said that EAGLE was great as a cadet. Having been away from old Dirty Bird for awhile, she has regained some of the charm.

I would counter with the less impressive aspects.

Nothing like climbing down a 147 foot mast especially going from the yardarm to the mast, cleaning up after cooking with your mates, double 4-8s, mid-rats (ok, there's nothing wrong with mid-rats), being held up by locals, it's not all good!

I'm leaving out the very disappointing parts too.

i think we'll have to agree to disagree. dont get me wrong some people loved it, but a majority dont have too many positive things to say about Eagle

BTW i didnt go on Eagle this summer so i really have no opinion on the matter, im just going off what most of my classmates say

I will say that EAGLE definately left some memories...

would I change them? No.

Did I really like them? No.

BR if you weren't on it how can you comment? I wasn't either but I could show you pictures of kids I know very well and they look very happy.

LITS, what was a CG C-130 doing at the arm pit of Germany, Grafenwohr?
