Today turns out to be my 2 year anniversary of when I earned my eagle scout!

Just out of curiosity, any other eagles out there?

If there are, what's your most notable scouting memory?

My DS was a scout for many years, but not an Eagle.

At FTX, he could always tell who was a scout and who wasn't by how well they packed their ruck.

Both of my brothers were Eagle Scouts. I only made star. My scoutmaster when I was a kid, was an Eagle Scout from the 1930's who was a WWII bomber pilot with 30 combat missions in Europe with the 381st BG. My fondest memories were of all the WWII B-17 stories that he told and the flight gear he brought in to show us at troop meetings. Great guy!!. All the fathers who volunteered were WWII vets with interesting and varied adventures and stories.

Service Academies LOVE Eagle scouts!!!

P.S. - Did you know that as an adult Scout Leader, the only rank badge that you are allowed to wear is your Eagle Scout badge. Once an Eagle Scout, always an Eagle Scout (just like being a Marine.)

I'm an Eagle, my brother was an Eagle and DS #3 (Plebe at USNA) is an Eagle. His younger brother is looking for his Eagle project now. Scouting was very important to my (now) plebe. It really shaped his identity in his high school years. He was on our Council's NYLT training staff for five years and his last year he was SPL(he finished four days before I-Day). It gave him a code to live by and taught him the value of servant leadership. Like everything in life, you get out of it what you put in. His best memory was almost certainly his Philmont trek. It was the first time he experienced mountains.

I am an Eagle...... I did almost everything there was to do with Scouting back in the day; OA, Camp Staff, Philmont, etc. A lot of good memories, and I give alot of credit for what I have been able to achieve (including attending USNA) to Scouting. After a 30+ year hiatus, I am happy to giving back by serving on my local Council Board of Directors.

I'm an Eagle. I remember that I was a Life Scout somewhere around my sophomore year, and suddenly girls became more important to me than BSA meetings on a Friday night. My parents told me I would regret not earning the rank. I handed in my final paperwork the day before my 18th birthday. My sons were in scouts and gave me an opportunity to get involved again, but they both lost interest.

I grew up near the BSA headquarters when it was in NJ. My sister actually met my brother-in-law there as co-workers. My brother-in-law is on the cover of the OA handbook from the early 60's.

My father was an Eagle Scout back in early 1940s ( USMA class of 1948 ) , my son is an Eagle ( USNA class 2012 )…...I came close but became more interested in girls and cars....I did become an ASM and had a blast organizing several high adventure trips for the Troop....one trip in July, 2001( pre- 9/11) included a special 3+ hour group guided tour of the NORAD complex under Cheyenne Mountain, those were amazing and massive blast doors......another highlight of that same Scout trip was lunch with the 5th Special Forces Group hosting us at Ft Carson and each Scout participating in a Virtual Reality HALO jump...pretty exciting for a group of 13 -17 year old Scouts ( and a few 40 something dads) :wiggle:

Proud mom of two newly minted Eagle Scouts, here. My favorite memory with my scouts was backing in the Grand Canyon!

I'm an eagle. My favorite memory is Rayado at Philmont. I highly recommend it if you are up for the challenge.

That would be great, without the horseback riding.

I’m going back to Philmont one last time this summer with my youngest. Don’t yet know are itinerary. It will be my third trek. Hope my torn meniscus in my knee cooperates.

My DS is an Eagle.

He went to Philmont in 2017. I wasn't able to go as I can't take that much time off from work.

The weather was unseasonably cold, and he got to experience a lot of challenges that when related to me, reminded me a lot of my time in the Army. I believe they covered about 70 miles over a 12 day period, with rain and chilly weather most of the time.

And as in my Army experiences, the parts that sucked the most at the time, are the things that stick in your memory and are fun to reminisce about.

There is something to be said about shared challenges (and shared misery, lol).

I think a lot of Philmont burned last year in one of the large western forest fires. Hopefully it didn't do enough damage to change the character of this long time Scouting landmark.
