I know most people take their CFA at SS or early on in their senior year, however I was wondering if I would be able to take it my junior year? I wanted to take it during swim season bc that's when my fitness is at its peak but swim season is jan-april for us. Would I be able to take it around February/marchish?

To be honest, I've never seen the question come up before...but I would expect that you could take (and more inportant input) CFA as soon as you are an Official Candidate and the Candidate portal opens. I don't know offhand when that happens, but recollection is that is in the March/April time frame. One caution, don't assume that Swimming Fitness = CFA fitness. Good luck.

Of course. It's just that during swim season my cardio gets better so the improved cardio during swim season will help me tremendously especially on the mile.

Also, for anyone reading, how are scores submitted? I know it's electronically but does the person administering the test have to input anything online or what?

You don’t get clearance to take the CFA until you become an official candidate and the application opens, which was July 1 last year. That’s when you can designate the person to administer the CFA.

Swimmers, take note. As mentioned above, cardio fitness in the pool doesn’t translate perfectly to the track. Make sure you don’t take that mile for granted.

Your CFA administrator inputs the scores online.

I understand that. However not on swim season my mile is in the 7s but during swim season it's in the mid to low 6s. I've seen it happen previous seasons during swim and I'm confident it'll be the same again this year.

USNA opens up the candidate portal by early May pretty much every year. I always push my local candidates to try to get their teacher/school related stuff started before school ends and many do so. That said, to answer the OP, no you won't be able to do the CFA during swim season as there is a several month gap between Swim season and the opening of candidate portals for applicants who are deemed to be official candidates.

Oh crap. You are right he asked this in the USNA forum. For so reason I was thinking this was in USAFA forum.
