Early Action Apps

Well, since we are EA1 and east coast, I sure hope that the absence of a phone call is not a bad omen...

Were phone calls made only to those who received full appointments or conditional ones as well?

Could one possibly be appointed to the Scholars program from early action? Or is every EA applicant just deferred and decided upon later...?

I applied early action last year and received my scholar appointment on Christmas eve.

ACT scores Class of 2015?

Wondering if anyone who has received an appointment for the class of 2015 would be willing to share the ACT scores they submitted?

For those who didn't receive a phone call, is that a bad sign?:frown:

Let's clear up the "phone call" misinformation -

AAPs have access to the names of candidates who are applying to the USCGA, as well as knowing how far along each one is in their application. They cannot see your stats or scores, only if your various application pieces (essays, PFE, etc) have been accepted. They are encouraged to call the candidates and encourage them to complete the app and to answer questions.

They are also given the names of the appointees, and are encouraged to contact the ones in their area to congratulate them and to answer any questions the appointees may have.

NOT EVERY AAP DOES THIS!

I would guess that a small small minority do this, and probably only to the appointees that they personally have interacted with (interview, HS contact visits, etc).

EA1 CANDIDATES ARE NOT NORMALLY NOTIFIED OF THEIR APPOINTMENT BY TELEPHONE.

Appointments are mailed (conditional come in a normal envelope and "full" appointments come in a USPS Priority Mail BFE) to the candidates and it normally takes 2-3 days for the letter to arrive.

IF the local AAP gets the new list of appointments and calls before the package arrives, it may seem that they are notifying candidates via phone, however, this is not the case, it's just a case of a dedicated considerate thoughtful proactive engaged AAP making sure his local candidates are taken care of. Other AAPs choose to wait a week to make sure the BFE has arrived before calling and congratulating the appointee. Some AAPs do neither.

"NOT" GETTING A PHONE CALL IS NOT A BAD SIGN!

Remember, until you get a "NO" the answer is still "maybe." This is just the first round.

Yes, these calls were from EA1, and from what I understood in our note the list was still a work in progress. The calls are purely congratulatory and not all AAP make the calls. Sometimes you just happen to reach a candidate who has not received their BFE yet.
Just breathe! :thumb:

I have had a lot of mix-ups with our mail lately. Just last week I recieved 4 pieces of mail that were not ours, but belonged to someone else. Are the letters sent certified in any way that if it gets lost someone would know?

Thank you. If we made the Oct 15th deadline, should we recieve something by mail informing us of an answer either way?

Your son/daughter should receive a letter that informs them if:
1. They are being offered a full appointment (this is the BFE)
2. They are being offered a conditional appointment (this is a regular envelope)
3. They are being placed into the "alternate" pool and will be reviewed with the 01 Feb 11 group (Objee, correct me if I'm wrong and this has changed since you've added the EA #2 group this year).

If they receive #1, then they have until 01 May 11 to respond with either a yea or nay (I hope it is a YEA!) and they must complete all the paperwork that is included in the BFE and make sure it is received by the deadlines outlined in the packet.

If they receive #2, then they must complete whatever stipulations are attached to the conditional appointment and these must be reviewed and approved by the Admissions Board. Once fully qualified then the BFE and paperwork will be forwarded to your son/daughter.

If they receive #3, then the waiting game and wringing of hands and wearing a path to the mailbox continues. At least you can take a breather until after 01 Feb 11. IMHO I would make sure your son/daughter has a strong backup plan, but they shouldn't give up hope of receiving an appointment. Our eldest cadet was picked up from the alternate pool and offered a full appointment in late April of their Senior year.

If your son/daughter is confident that they will be accepting an appointment to ANY SA I would strongly suggest that they begin the process of applying for a passport (that will be one less thing you'll have to run around doing in the hectic days of Spring!)

Thank you. If we made the Oct 15th deadline, should we recieve something by mail informing us of an answer either way?

  • All EA1 candidates will receive their admissions decision (appointment, conditional appointment, deferral, or rejection) no later than December 24.

  • All EA2 candidates will receive their admissions decision (appointment, conditional appointment, deferral, or rejection) no later than January 15.

  • All RA candidates (deadline = Feb 1) will receive their admissions decision (appointment, conditional appointment, deferral, or rejection) no later than April 15.

  • All candidates who are offered appointments have until May 1 to accept.

Thanks for all of the replies. At least I know to expect some sort of envelope for sure, informing us of what lies ahead. Passport has been taken care of and back up plan in place, so we will wait to hear.

Thanks again.

Received a regular sized letter in the mail today for my son from admissions, which is probably not the best sign, but hopefully not total rejection yet. Don't think we will spring the news until after his first basketball game of the season tonight, though!

Is his DoDMERB physical all done, with no remedials? If not, it could be a conditional appointment. Best of luck - you have more patience than me...

Yes, his DodMerb is done and he was qualified as of mid October. And thank you for your best wishes - same to you!

Good Luck GemStateMom! I'm hoping for the best for you and your DS!

Does anyone know if you are disqualified for something on the DoDMERB, could you still receive a conditional appointment pending a waiver/rebuttal?

DS received the deferral letter today. He's understandably a little disappointed but he is also glad it wasn't a rejection. He plans to do what he needs to in order to stay in the race.
