Does anybody know what time of day the Academy would be sending out notifications? I find myself checking my email WAY to often waiting for the email. It would be nice to know if there’s a typical time they send it out so that way I know if I didn’t get it at that time to just wait until the next day and check again. Of course the only people who really know are admissions but any insights would be nice!

My son is on a 9-minute rotation checking his email - I wouldn't recommend that!

The good news is that he can't do that while he's at school (I think) or sleeping (can't verify he does that).

So, no advice here, sorry...

DD has a new boyfriend as of yesterday, so portal checking has gone to text checking. I don't know whether that's good or bad.
IMO = Bad
I keep telling our son that things are soon going to have to change with his GF. She's staying local for college and, although we don't know exactly where yet, we know he's going far, far away for college. Bad timing for a new (or existing) BF/GF...

Agree BAD. Timing is horrible and was trying to get an extra SAT in December. GPA's probably going south too. Such is life.

Update from CFAD yesterday. Admissions has submitted their first ~500 decisions to the Superintendent to be signed off on. Their goal was to begin notifications in November, but timelines were complicated by having a new Superintendent in this year's cycle. The Admissions team has to learn the new Boss and the Boss has to learn the processes and there is a significant amount of review that go into each candidate record (~30mins). Additionally, as students are categorized as a hard NO, it goes through multiple additional reviews by the Dir of Admissions and the Superintendent to be 100% sure they want to issue a TWE.

As of yesterday, the Supt. had not signed off on the board's recommendations and this has admissions in a holding pattern. The Dir of Admissions indicated we could see movement by the end of next week - his quote was "within the next week or so." The Dir of Operations (part of admissions) indicated their preference is for Friday notifications. NO HARD DATE for initial notifications was shared, but conversations certainly pointed toward this Friday or next week. They understand the pain of the waiting game and are not withholding notifications on purpose or to achieve a specific date.

Notifications will flow out and not be a 500 student dump into the system. They think all EA should be notified NLT 23 DEC but the official published timeline accounts for a few extra days if needed.

Eh, maybe. A couple of my son's friends hooked up for the spring and summer of senior year knowing full well that it was going to end in August. It was a short fling that worked as designed.

Thanks shiner I'll make sure to give my son this information after school today. I'm beginning to worry a little bit that I see him becoming a little bit jaded (or some other adjective I can't really pinpoint) with the whole process. In some ways, I think he's just basically made up his mind that it's going to be Plan B...and I keep trying to reinforce in him that it's "normal" for these things to take time, and things will most likely work out. Hey, he's a 17-year old boy; who knows what's really going on inside that mind of his???

Thank you for the update from CFAD. It has to be hard on the admissions team, too. I imagine they want to get this first wave out and notified because they have stacks of applicants in RD that need their attention as well. As in every military branch, change of command means change of - well, everything. LOL The tension in my Family is running high as I have many waiting for "something." One Kid waiting for new orders, One Kid waiting on a New location, One Kid waiting for notification from an Academy and a Hubby who is waiting for a news on MIL retirement. I am the only non-MIL in my family so What does this mean for me? Wine. A LOT of Wine getting poured for me as I try to soothe everyone's anxiety. Lordy.

TexasAggie204, that's interesting. DD has gone to Plan B as well. I'm sure she still holds hope for USCGA as her first choice, but I haven't heard her talk about it in awhile. Her interview went well, but we don't know if the interview was a good or a bad thing in her case. So, I think she's "cautiously optimistic" and focusing on other plans.

Dadx4 - In both of our cases it's probably a good thing that neither of our children seem to be obsessing over the possible appointment. We both just need to make sure that Plan B doesn't turn into Plan BF/GF (which would mean a change in college plans to be near the boyfriend or girlfriend). Seen that too many times in my life, and that's ALWAYS a bad idea!!!

Agreed on the "Wait" turning into an "unknown adjective" - except it's ME - not my kid. LOL It's a little tough when all other rolling applications have come back as a positive and the other schools are in constant contact about events, classes, professors, dorm assignments, etc. I, as the mom, am beginning to see that some of these other programs are truly amazing, too. Then, they start throwing in great scholarship offers and all of a sudden, the landscape starts changing, you know? My Kid is still laser focused on the Academy while I am over here like, "Hmmmm, what about this other school?!" Haha. Personally, having other offers come in already has taken some of the pressure off, though. So, there is that.

I will say that the Academy, overall, has been a little lacking in the communication department over the two year time frame we interacted with them. My guess, though, is that they are just overwhelmed and working with a small crew. When my older one enlisted in the CG, the recruiter NEVER communicated, replied to emails - nothing. My USAFA hubby was like, "WTF?" It was maddening for all involved. My son stuck it out and eventually finished the process. He is now a super happy Coastie. I had a conversation with the Coast Guard recruiter later and discovered that he was by himself working a three state area whereas the Marine recruiting offices had 9 recruiters for one city. Then, I understood. Sometimes, patience is required with such a small branch. So, perspective and patience for all involved - apparently even at the Academy level. :)

True, December is a BIG month for EA notifications. If DD gets an acceptance from Plan B in mid-December, I'm sure that will charge her up (and me). :)

You're 100% right. It's difficult for students (and parents) to see all this other, really positive "stuff" going on outside of the SA process without getting a little bit put-off...I would bet however, that there would be a ton of parents out there willing to be in our very enviable position though with very good Plan B's, scholarship offers, etc...

The funny thing is that ALL of the kids who are applying to ANY service Academy have been working for YEARS on leadership, academics, JROTC, athletics, community service, etc, etc, etc. I know my kid has been focused on it since middle school; working hard all these years to be competitive for a spot. Statistically, less than 15% of applicants will get into a SA but that doesn't mean they weren't qualified. It means the SA's don't have enough space for all of the qualified applicants that come their way. As such, the remaining 85% will still be functioning above most other college applicants nationwide. They have well rounded, leadership oriented, powerhouse resumes. The plan "B" schools - which will probably all be excellent schools, too - will scrap for students of SA Caliber. REALITY? All of these kids will do amazing things - SA or not.

@CGFAM , new poll please. How Many Glasses Did CGFAM have today? Choices: 1-4, Full Bottle.

Thanks @shiner for the update from CFAD!!
It's still fairly early where I am but just give me a little time! By Day's End? My guess is that I am opening a new bottle. Though ~ the college application process has been known to force me to forgo the wine every now and again - and just step on up to a straight shot of Whiskey. Hahaha!

Same here. Our plan B is looking good and plan C...our “shoe in school” is set.

Best wishes for everyone!
