Early Action Statistics

Interesting, the SAT scores are up significantly compared to last year but the average class rank is down significantly.
SAT 1348 for 2012 vs. 1311 for 2011 is indeed a significant jump. On the surface it appears the admissions committee is giving more weight to standardized test scoring and a little less to Class Rank/GPA (2012 8% top decile vs. 11% in 2011) ... i.e. potential vs. realized.

I see in Objee's posts that the reason for this is the decreasing number of schools who will publish class rank, making that metric less reliable. Fortunately or unfortunately, this plays to the favor of the very strong standardized tester, and to the disfavor of the merely strong standardized tester who performs better in the classroom. More money for the testing prep services I suppose

Are there statistics available for the kids that weren't selected? I'm just wondering if there is a clear demarcation on gpa/act/rank kind of numbers between those that receive appointments and those that don't. Thanks.

You may see something but I think there is a little more to it than that. My son was fortunate enough to receive a CGAS appointment. His test scores are a bit above the average for direct appointments, his gpa is in between the averages for direct and scholar appointments and his class rank is a couple percent below the direct appointment average. I really doubt the full statistical profile is going to tell you what you want to know.

Selection is not all ACT/SAT scores. Athletic leadership and community service are import factors along with motivation for attending. My 2-cents.

What is a conditional appointment? Can you give us any updates on the acceptances thus far?

There are so many things we consider in the holistic review of someone's academic record: ACT/SAT scores; GPA; high school rank; curriculum offered; curriculum taken; school(s) attended; dual enrollment; post-high school experience; instructor evaluations; personal statements; etc. etc. etc. As more and more high schools stop ranking (or providing us class ranks for) their students, an applicant's high school rank really becomes less and less important compared to all the other items we have to consider.

DS is anxiously waiing to hear from your review board. Do all applicants get a call and then the BFE in the mail? I sent you a PM with more specifics on my DS. Thanks for all of the infomative posts!:thumb:
