We were hoping to travel 3 or 4 days early to I Day. Does anyone know if this is permitted for travel reimbursement?

Your child will be reimbursed for his/her travel from home of record to USNA regardless of the date of travel. For those coming from locations where an overnight stay is required to report on time (e.g., most of the US), I think they will pay for a single night at a hotel at whatever the government allows for Annapolis (someone correct me if I'm wrong on this point).

If you elect to arrive early, the additional days are at your expense but your DS/DD would still be reimbursed for travel.

For air or train travel, I don't believe you are reimbursed any lodging cost since USNA allows candidates to reside in Bancroft Hall the night before (therefore, government lodging is made available to candidates).

For personally operated vehicles (POV) travel, there is a per diem (stipend) that is issued per day, which accounts for food, lodging, etc. This is only issued for driving distances (from home of record to Annapolis) greater than 350 miles. Every 350 miles is considered one day and is rounded up (i.e. if the remainder isn't 0, it is more day added on).

Fair point re staying at Bancroft. After all these years, I'd forgotten (especially since at the time my home of record was wiithin 50 miles of Annapolis).
