hello!
So, when I was around 13 (16 now), my doctor diagnosed me with anorexia and had me go to a counselor. That said, I never really had a problem and the counseling was pointless. I wasn’t stressed even with all the family things that were going on. Anyways, is it possible to get a waiver for this? I either want to do USAFA or ROTC to become an aeronautical or astronautical engineer. And hopefully eventually become a pilot. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I do not have an answer, but I am super proud of you for overcoming- that's really hard and the pressures on young people are so so high.(ETA: I just re-read your message, even if you didn't feel you had a problem, yay for you for staying strong and being an awesome person...anyone who looks into the Academies seems to be an awesome person, IMO)

I will see if I can find anything out and come back (though I am sure there are way smarter folks than me who can help you.)

DOD Instruction 6130.03 dated May 6, 2018.

Section 5.28 LEARNING, PSYCHIATRIC, AND BEHAVIORAL DISORDERS
k. History of any feeding or eating disorder.

You can find the DODI online and download a copy to review if you'd like.

Based on that and, knowing I am NOT a DODMERB physician, I would imagine you would receive an initial "DQ" for this. Then the question arises: is it waiverable? What the DODMERB folks will tell you is that MOST situations are potentially waiverable. Some are not and some are almost automatically yes with some very minor actions.

The only people that will be able to answer this with 100% accuracy will be the DODMERB folks. My advice is to continue your quest, make yourself the best candidate you can, and then go for it! The worst thing that happens is they say "no" and the best is that they say "yes." One things certain: if you don't take the shot, you'll never know.
