ECP questions

It was explained to me that they have received students from JMC. These students sometimes struggle with the core classes needed for specific majors. One such major is engineering.
Anyway, my DS is leaning away from the ECP at this point. I don't agree because you know what they say about a bird in hand being better than two in a bush.
But it is his decision. He has to live with the consequences. He is now seriously thinking about enlisting. He wants a career in the Army .
Are we the same person? I was focused on him doing ECP thinking mostly about the structure of the school and because he is on the young side at some he would have the High school seniors / jrs that are same age. Doesn't hurt either that if he went MMI they have a whole building named after my Godfather/ man I was named after. lol
The ability to already be earning TIS and TIG was very appealing. We had never heard about the low AD numbers. He went to MMI, GMC and Valley Forge. He had applied to all 5 JMC and until he went out and my cousin also took him to His selected school which originally was a add on because he had an extra day in AL. I think if he had not be able to go on that visit with my awesome cousin who gave him that opportunity He would have only had MJC and Norwich on his application. I think like you we have to let them make these choices for themselves. At first I was pretty set thinking he should stay with MCP but he really loves AUM campus and has made a mentor already at the school. So with his desires and the things we have learned here I think he has made a good honest assessment just as you are doing now for your DS. Kinda crazy that we were wanting to break free the moment we graduated but now we are on the other side but still trying to pretend we have not become our parents. They will figure it out. But we will have nerviness breakdowns before they even leave lol

My DS stats are:
GPA unweighted 3.2
weighted 3.8

SAT: cr/math 1210

Some honors/AP classes

Top 25% of class

National Honor Society

Community Service: Firehouse Aux. And American Legion Post

Football 9-12
Varsity Lettered Junior Senior year
Captain of the football team

Recreational swim team/community swim freshman - junior year

Lifeguard/cpr certified through American Red Cross

Interview went well. Given full amount of points.

Very physically active.
Ju-jit-su
Gets up every morning drives to school. Works out / showers and starts the day.
Runs whenever the weather allows. Given full points for physical ( don't remember what it is called but you all know what I mean)

Not perfect stats
Overall decent stats

As for the idea of enlisting: that is because he does not want to start off his life/career in tremendous debt.

We will give whatever we can to help him out. But most of the burden will be his. We are of modest means and have two more children in the next two years that will be going to college.

Our DS chose four schools. Two have already accepted him. (We hear the other two take forever to sent out admission info.) One has offered a very generous scholarship. We have been in close contact with this school. It is now his first choice. I find this school to be on top of things.

Thank you for all the replies and feedback.

My DS is going to attend MMI as a self prep if the USMA offer does not materialize for 2020. I understand that he can start the ECP program and if accepted at USMA for 2021, be released from ECP.

How do you suppose USMA views a candidate that is in the ECP program? I am assuming it is a nonfactor in the admission process to WP.

Would the attendance at CIET have any bearing on his ability to get released from ECP and attend WP if appointed?

One last question: are the available options of a follow on school for ECP any university with AROTC that the student can get accepted to?

I think his academics will play the major roll in getting accepted to USMA.

No bearing on getting accepted or released. (however if he participates in the ECP he will go to CIET).

Answer to last question, yes, any school that has an AROTC program.

QA1517 -Thanks for the info. Another question in regards to timing. We are taking a visit down to MMI to get acquainted with it and its programs and confirm that is place for DS. We can't get down there until first part of April. Are there strict time constraints on enrolling in ECP and getting set up for CIET? Could it possibly be too late to do so at some point?

I have to think that April would be fine, but my DS went thru it when it was LTC not CIET and all cadet summer training wasn't concentrated at Fort Knox. At that time I think they had to be signed by June, but things have changed.

If I were you I might contact not only the school you are interested in but others and ask them, that way you have more than one answer to go on. Remember tha ROO's are recruiters also, so they like to get people signed up early. That's why they like to contact people so early instead of waiting until after all the national boards are done.

When DS entered, ECP scholarships were pretty much limitless. When he graduated, the school he went to were having to cut some out of the class behind him because they had offered too many scholarships and were only allowed to commission x-number of cadets.
