My son is still boarded/under consideration- not selected but still eligible for Ancillary offers. Does anyone know what this means?

I would check the file upload box and if there is a winner letter there that’s a pretty good sign. I received my letter and mine also is in set boarded/uc

Nope, nothing yet....still says Boarded/uc and eligible for ancillary offer...... Does anyone else have this status?

Ancillary offers are additional offers that may be made after the National Scholarship board, such as: Congressional Nominations, offers made to the USMA Qualified Non-Select list, or any 3AD misfires. If you were not selected for a scholarship, I would go with the expectation that you will not got an ancillary offer, as those are few and far between.

However, maintain contact with the ROO of the program of the school that you are attending this Fall. Some programs will be given a Campus Based 3YR scholarship to award to a High School student, in the next month or so. Typically, the programs will pick someone that they have met, and have been in contact with, as they want to award the scholarship to someone that they think will commission from there program.

There will also be multiple opportunities to earn campus based scholarships as a college freshman and sophomore. In fact, most scholarships awarded by Cadet Command are campus based scholarships to college students, as they are a proven entity, whereas giving a high school student a scholarship is a bit of a gamble.

+1 to MohawkarmyROTC's advice above, if you are still waiting, re-read his post, contact the ROO of the school you plan to attend, not to say"hey give me a scholarship" but to let them know you are coming, you are serious about AROTC and want to be added to the list of incoming cadets so they can contact you with any information being sent out in the summer. Be on their radar. It might not turn into an offer now, but might in the future. Communicate with them. I will never forget the advice my non-ROTC kids got from a coach during the sports recruiting process. He said the best way to increase your odds of being recruited by a school is to have a relationship with them (at their age it had to be student-athlete initiated) he said so to actually have a relationship with me as a coach you have to stay in contact and keep me in the loop. So keep the ROO in the loop, that you are enrolling in ROTC, and will be there in the fall. Good luck to all!

That is great advice- thank you so much. He has been in contact w/ the ROO of the school he is attending. We are hoping he gets the scholarship they offer as a freshmen which would begin his sophomore year. Thanks again and good luck to all!!!

+1 @Dckc88

It is also how my DS ultimately ended up with a 3.5 year campus based AROTC scholarship after being turned down by 2 SA's and the NROTC/MO scholarship.

How would you handle this if attending a SMC? Still call and let them know you are coming? Everyone at VMI is in an ROTC whether they have a scholarship or not. Should I contact them now or wait until I am on campus and be a great student?

Just wanted to let those who are still waiting know there is still hope! DD got word from one of her schools that they are offering her a 3-year. Up until then she had Boarded/Under Consideration on her status. We did exactly what MowharkArmyROTC, Clarkson, and the ROO who interviewed her said and reached out to the school she was planning on attending. Sure enough they got in contact with her and offered her the scholarship!!:) So keep up the hope! She is so happy and grateful! Listen to all the wonderful advice here and never give up!

We also reached out to my son's school of intent and they told him that he would be eligible for a 3 year scholarship after freshman year- he needs to keep a 3.0gpa, stay in the ROTC program, show leadership and drive to be in the program, pass all the PT tests etc...... So we are excited- I feel that my son will reach all the criteria and we are hoping that he gets the 3 year scholarship after Freshman year!
I am also grateful for the advice here- we probably wouldn't have reached out unless I read about it here! Thank you and good luck to everyone!!
