Eliminationg during Beast and over the 4 years thereafter?

Chockstock,

I'm in the game until they tell me I'm not. I'm optimistic but honestly I can't see it happening. Here's to Civil Prep!

[edit]

It is no longer who you know... not with this class.

Tru: you seem to have a great attitude; I know it will work out for you one way or another. Best of luck......

Surely the network helps...but knowing everyone only helps, it doesn't replace what your file states. (not true for athletes- as athletic support and how much they want you can really help). I am certainly not bashing you. Tougher admissions standards today then when I went (Prepster- sent by lacrosse- thank goodness for athletic support- as no way I get to prep w/o lacrosse backing).

So I also am a graduate of O'Neill HS. My graduating HS class of 170 sent 13 to West Point: 7 USMAPS, 2 direct admission, 1 civil prep (FB-Hotchkiss), 3 who went to college one year and got in the next year. All 7 prepsters got appointments (190 out of the original 330 at prep got appointments- we had 200 left at the end of the prep year- so 10 who wanted to go didn't as they lacked appointments) 10 of 13 HS classmates graduated from West Point.

Civil prep is a great way to go...Is it just SATs? Going to college is a way also..just tough to ace freshmen classes and prepare for SATs.

Hang tough, you have the right attitiude- you will succeed. If West Point doesn't work out...ROTC is a greta way to go...with the same bottom line...2LT!

Rah Rah Raiders! Beat navy!

Were you offered an AOG scholarship???
If so, this is nothing to sneeze at. Really. B
BTW - you should know this already but a high ranking Army officer who works in Academics at West Point has a child who went to USMAPS for a year.

Just A Mom-

I have not officially been offered an AOG scholarship yet but my admissions offer seemed very positive about the whole thing. I also kind of assume he wouldn;t have brought it up if it wasnt a possibility.

laxman44-

Thank you for your support! What year did you graduate from O'Neill if you dont mind sharing?

I was found fully qualified by the Admissions Board this year and placed on the National Waiting List. So SAT's aren't an issue, the class size is. I've come to terms with the whole thing pretty much.

I do have a backup plan. I was accepted to Ball State University in Indiana and have isn't in my deposit for that school in case Civ Prep doesn't come through.

iirc here is how the numbers break down for the O'Neill Class of 2010:

Direct Admit: ~7
Prep School: ~6
Potential Civil Prep: 1 (Me)

I kind of got stuck in the middle... not too bad considering everything I was up against.

Don't mind sharing...O'Neill 1976 West Point 1981. As you know I have several classmates currently serving up there. West Point is were I'm from and go home a couple of times a year.

I should be heading up there today but work is getting in the way. Patriot League Lax trny at Michie....Beat Bucknell!

You are absolutely right! Keep in touch with your admissions officer - convey the message that you are excited for this opportunity.
Try to accentuate the positive here and get it out of your head that this opportunity is somehow a "rejection".
Personally, in many ways I think you can come out ahead of your high school peers.
You will have the opportunity to go away from home and succeed on your own. Whether or not you go to NMMI or MMI (lately WP has been sending the vast majority to MMI) - you will be in a program with a bunch of kids just like you. My daughter's class at MMI had 100 SAP's. You will meet, live with and go to school with a bunch of kids who will not only be in your class at West Point but Navy, AF and Coast Guard.
You will report back to West Point already having *survived* a year of military school - beast will actually be fun.
Do really well in your classes and you will have the opportunity to validate a bunch of plebe courses. This will open your schedule later on and you will be able to take some great courses.
In the end --- attitude is everything!
